Anyone currently keeping this fish?
The males are about 6in, and female 41/2 -5 in.

it's not a Burundi; these look more like S cf polli or one of the nondescribed Giant Petricola's.

definitely closely related, but an even more rare find than the true petricola
it's body is too stout (true petri's are very elongated) and the pattern is quite different (true petri's have a dense spotted pattern).

After looking in profiles seems like true petricola.


What ever they are, they are parents.

These are S. petricola "dwarf". You might want to double check your measurements.

I am also breeding the dwarfs ,not the same fish IMHO .Much larger fish and pattern is also not the same.The eggs are larger and mature faster than the dwarfs, also far less mortality rate.
Do others have dwarfs larger than 4inches?

the babies look kinda like baby dwarfs (but darker), but the adult doesn't look like a dwarf at all; it's too big, too 'pale', the spots are very small, regular and very few (dwarfs have more spots and those are spread irregular)

and this fish has a bigger head as well.

I think it's another variety or subspecies of petricola you're breeding (white dorsal spine), but it ain't no dwarf.

Judging from the pattern of the dorsal I would say its a 'Petricola Big', but mine have a broader head.

Any details of the spawning available?

The setup is with marbles as you can see in the photo's.The fish are lazy and only active when feeding, normally swim with a snake like side to side action.They became very active for a few days and noticed a female drop a few eggs when chased.After a few hours I collected the eggs and they hatched in about the same time as the dwarfs,although the eggs were a little larger.The best part is most of the eggs hatched with these fish and one that size produces quite a few.Its very hard to tell just how many but well over 200 fish spread out in 4 tanks right now.
They are fast outgrowing dwarfs over a month older,as they feed very well on about anything.
While it has taken two years to get fry I think they may have spawned before and eaten the eggs, as I have had gravid females before.

The fish in the last pic and the one in the background of the pic above are definitely dwarfs.

The other more 'yellow' one still baffles me.

but maybe the variety in 'dwarf' petricola's is a lot bigger than I suspected

The last 2 photos are the same fish ,one with flash the other without
When I look in the gallery under petricola I see 3 variations the last picture look like the fish I have to me, but a better picture than I can get.I guess much varity with this fish ,who has dwarf pic's with fish over 4 inches?
