We've just set up a display with 50 Glass Catfish (they look so much better in semi-decent shoals I feel). Has anyone got an image I can beg, borrow or steal for the label?
I'd also appreciate any images or descriptions anyone may have of habitats where Glass Cats are present.
Naturally once they are settled and have grown somewhat an attempt at encouraging them to spawn will be on the agenda, it may be that greater numbers of individuals and manipulation of the environmental conditions will make this a feasible project.

This is a species found in somewhat largish rivers. Hopefully, the water parameters of the localities where the type series were collected will give you an idea of its habitat:

Rocky channel in mainstream, current moderate, water tinted dark brown, temperature 25°C, pH 7

Large river about 50 m wide, current moderate, water turbid, temperature 26°C, pH 7.5, bottom coarse sand to gravel

Current moderate to strong, water clear to slightly turbid, 28°C, pH 7-7.5

Water turbid, 26°C, pH 6.5

Great, thanks HH. I have them in a well-planted 80 gallon aquarium, pH 6.8, temp c.26C.
Substrate fine gravel (I'd have preferred sand but didn't have enough time to be sure of stripping the tank down fully).
They're feeding great on artemia nauplii and crushed flake, I think I might look at adding another couple of hyaline spp. of fish from that area in the next few weeks.
The display is to link in with a current exhibition, "The Glass Aquarium" featuring some remarkable replicas of marine invertbrates created during the 19th C by the Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka.
