I have a few of these, I suspect one of them is female and the others are male through the body shape (vertical view) and physical size, ie, the male are smaller than the female. Anyway, I have been thinking about breeding this catfish for a while. I read books and the internet, the conclusion I got is 1) separate the sexes 2) feed them high protien food such as blood worms (I assume frozen) and/or brine shrimp (frozen again) 3) put them together 4) reduce fliter flow 5)drop water temperature by doing large water change (50%) and they (2 male to 1 female) should spawn that evening or the following day. Is this about correct? Is there any other trick I have to use with Sterbai?

Sounds good, although you probably don't have to seperate them. Using RO or rain water to do that water change should help also. It will simulate a rain fall. The more generations from wild your stock is the easier they will be to spawn.

only spawned these little beauties in january so still fresh in my mind.but what worked for me may not work for you as they have a mind of their own.anyway heres how it went
two males and two of the fattest females were fed on a mainly live food diet(whiteworm,tubifex,and bloodworm)with some frozen foods and tablet food.when females fatten up i moved them to a 24x12x12 inch tank with java fern,a box filter,fine gravel and some spawning mops.water conditions were PH6.5,GH4,temp76F.they were left to settle for a week then the temp was raised to 81F.again they were held at this temp for two days which started a small spawning(around forty eggs)only one male and one female took part.but the other two ate all the eggs,then the next morning i did a thirty percent water change and then they really went for it ,laying nearly 200 eggs.these took 3 days to hatch and are being fedmicro worm and fine growth food.
