would my two pictus benifit from having a tunnel to hide in or maybe a long piece of slate leaned against the back pane to create a tunnel???????

I think they would benefit more from company of their own kind. Add a few. Then do the cave trick, which they will appreciate. Mind however that they like to swim; they will certainly not behave like for instance Platydoras , which only get out in the dark and/or when fed.

Well i have 3 an dthere are a few tunnels in my tank but they will kjust swim through it. It isnt beneficial or harmful. I have never seen mine stop swimming.
