I know, now its back to the waiting game. I really cannot wait to have a 210 gallon full of jags. As of now, the tank is cycling with some cich lid fry, which will become food.

Sorry, interested yes, time, no. I am leaving on holiday next week and am currently spreading fish out to lower stocking levels - so no new fish for me for a while.

OK Jools. If you want I can get the for you (if still there) and pass them on later. They would be kept in a friends tank so cant obviously guarantee their safety.

Yes. I got them but they were 3 males and Jools didnt want them so I've got them. 4 more turned up at Ferrybridge Aquatics this week. Only saw 2 of them, they were both males!

That's odd. Hopefully at least one of the other 2 you didn't see turns out to be a female. Great fish and no problem keeping them in pairs. Perhaps you could suggest a swap when Ferrybridge doesn't mind having only males - that is, of course, if they actually have a female.

Btw: did someone already show any interest in your woodcats for sale?

The other 2 had been sold before I got to the shop. They didn't know how to sex them so were guessing really, so I don't know if the buyer got a pair or not.

Had one contact from USA, but not sure how I'd go about getting them to him?

Am considering a new (bigger) tank, but have asked NHA to keep their eyes out for some more , so sadly am saving any spare space for these, should they ever appear. I hope you find good homes for them Steve.
Sadly, due to personal issues, I've had to break down my smaller 'Auchenipterids R Us' tank, though MatsP is taking on the remaining pair of and the , and the young I got from Mats are all going to a colleague at work.
Am also thinning out the stock in my larger tank, so will probably find new homes for the pair of , 2 (probably female) and the rather boisterous , mainly because I have 5 adult waiting at my LFS until I have more room.

I would be but too far away for me, and with postage, it's out of my budget. I can get them via my LFS if NHA can get some, and get discount too!
If it was closer, would have snapped them up.

Too bad you had to stop keeping these fish Martin. Your spec 2 are still doing very well; if it's any comfort at least you know that they're taken care of properly.

While in Scotland I got hold of some Butterfly woodcats and under that name I can sneak them into this thread No woodcat of course, but Helogenes marmoratus. The above specimen is evading the fuss that comes with a thorough tank cleaning, which means find a leaf at the surface and pretend you're not there (when I tried to blow the duckweed away it did turn around, but stayed on the leaf)....

That is a neat looking fish. Martin, If I was closer, I would hold the fish for you until a larger tank comes about.

Thanks Marc - yes, am sure Mats will give them a good home, and am glad yours are still doing very well too. I still find myself amazed at how we managed to get the fish from here in the UK to your home in one piece!

Nice - had those at my LFS at the same time the Tatia sp(2) first arrived, but never got round to keeping them.
Thanks again - hopefully will try to post some new pics of my existing auchenipterids soon, especially the jags (both Richard's and mine for comparison).

Male specimen from Jools (grey has become almost black with just a hint of a reticulated pattern): My female specimen: I'm getting more and more convinced these are two different species after all.

Maybe, the problem is that when you stress them, they look just like your female...

That's the odd part, for my female has been like that since I bought her and she's perfectly at ease.
Also they seem totally uninterested in each other.

Do you find your fry hunting at the surface like mini tasmanian deils when the lights are out? That was the only time I ever saw mine, with the odd exception of one resting in algae on the rear glass. You are obviously doing something more right than I was as mine did not appear to grow at all - I don't think I saw any of them get above 5mm TL.
Am looking forward to seeing how these get on as they grow - I'm guessing you have seperated them from the parents? As am now keeping both tanks, am looking for some small cats to mix in with more active tank inhabitants once the larger cats are moved to their new home, and so will look out for some more of these as they are great little fish.

It's easy days yet, I have a lot of floating plastic plants and the small fish take refuge in there but they are still in with the adults.

The video below may explain why wildcaught auchenipterids have different colours from specimens we keep at home. In this case it's about , but it could also refer to the Catfish of the Month September 2009, which is or , to name just a few.

I was asked at the WLAS meeting yesterday what exactly a Jaguar cats post cleitheral process looked like and what it was - I wasn't sure and couldn't answer directly.

Anyone else know and care to expand? I'll put the info in the catelog.
