Very nice collection.. Can you please post a pic of the"Panaque cf. Armbrusteri L027 `Rio Araguaia".. Preffered if its side by side with the Xingu? I would just like to see the differences.. I know its asking too much specially with all the woods etc but see what you can do, it would be awesome!
I been thinking about getting some "tapajos" but the ones i've seen are too small.

Is it the 6th and 7th picture? Very nice coloration and looks like a good size too.

Seriously jealous of your set ups rob. Iv got the panaque bug myself but only got room for the one
L204 and l191.
Hoping to set up a 3m tank myself in a few months. How many panaques do you keep in yours. I'd like to keep a group of 4-5 l204 and 2-3 l191 would this be two much in your opinion with panaque.
Thanks in advance

In a 1.60 tank I have 7 L351 and 3 L191. De L191 are juveniles (15 cm).....It takes several years before I have to skip one or get a bigger tank. The other 1.60 tank I have 4 L330 (15-20cm) and a group of L204 with allot of hiding places. Good filtration (allot of oxygen) is a must. About 2400ltr each tank

In the future 1.80 x 80 x 60 tank I.m gonna keep 4 L418....two are about 30 cm and the other two are 15cm......so enough space for the time being.

Thanks rob.
I currently have mine in aqua one 165 litre with a pair of bristlenoes and a few tetras.
Iv got 2400 lhr filtration on that and a airstone. Running on the aquaone wet dry filter and a external canister filter.
My l204 is about 10 cm and the l191 only about 5cm at the moment so got a few years before he out grows that tank.
In a 3.00x70x70 from what you have in your tanks then is suitable for quite a large group then. Provided there is very good filtration and air not to mention wood.
I was thinking a group of l191 as iv already got one but I will be keeping my two 165 l tanks set up so may just add another one to the one I have in there and go for a diff l number.

Wow, Rob. I like how you call 150cm/5ft tanks 'small', I'd like to be able to think like that in the future. What filtration are you using on them?

I'm currently cleaning the pond canister filter I use on my 150cm/5ft tank, and was stunned by the amount of waste I found in there. There wasn't much water in the water.

In the 1.60 tank I have a filtercompartment inside the tank with a 2400 ltr pump.....and a 2800ltr Koralia. The panaque's produce allot of waste, but you get used to it :d

Nice tank, Rob, great dimensions. What will you use in the filter compartment? Several types/layers of media or a HMF style sponge?

Do you have the L418 yet?

Thx !! Gonna use just the style sponge...I already have the 418's. Later this year the second tank will be built for the L027's

The two larger ones seem to differ a lot already in pattern, do they tend to lose their pattern/stripes as they get larger? Can you tell the difference between these and L191?

Is the long term plan to keep them together and see if they'll breed?

I'll cross my fingers.....sure I hope that they will breed. Indeed they lose their pattern

The L191 has broken lines when young, the L418 has lines like the L190 and the tailfin is different.

this is an adult L418

Rob,
I absolutely LOVE all of your pictures, but this one makes me laugh every time I see it, as the Panaque's sawdust is so obvious! I'm setting up a new tank for a L190 & my boyfriend wasn't sure why I was adding SO much driftwood until I showed him these 2 pictures together (he's more of a dog guy than fish)... and suddenly he understood : ) Gotta give them SOMETHING to chew on :YMDEVIL:
Thanks for giving us such a detailed tour of you monsters! You're a dangerous inspiration :-S
