The male was acting a bit strange and tossed 6 eggs out of the cave, so I desided to bull out all the eggs. There are 33 alive ones in a breeder box suspended in the main tank with an air lift to provide fresh water. I have also added a few trumpetsnails to eat the yolc from the dead eggs, and keep the live ones clean from fungus.

good luck breeding them i hope you succesfully grow one atleast 1 batch of eggs so captive bred l200 will be available which should also be easier to breed

The snails have very effectively eaten all remnants of the bad eggs. The head count (egg count) this evening is 32. The embryos have developed considerately the last 22 hours.

This is like Christmas. 15 minutes ago I found a cluch of Ancistrus triradiatus eggs that had been expelled from a cave. I placed them together with the Hemiancistrus subviridis eggs to show the difference in size.

We have passed the point in time when all died last time. Everything is looking good.

There are 28 healthy eggs/wigglers. Around 1/4 are free from the eggshells. Later this evening I will manipulate them some with a fine artist brush to simulate the male freeing the fry from the eggs.

The embryological development appears to be proceeding normally and I don't see why the larvae would not develop normally.
If you have any control over the breeding cave, I would recommend elevating the opening slightly to reduce the accidental expulsion of eggs or larvae. The care provided by the male is usually going to be superior to what we can provide as a substitute. I know you are aware of that but some readers may not know this.

I will definitely elevate the opening to avoid the eggs from tumbling out. Maybe even build a sand levy around the opening to form a funnel around the cave opening. I much prefer to let the male do the job. Furthermore the tank with the rocks, clean water and excellent filtration should be ideal for raising some of the Young's. If many are produced this winter I will also use a 200 liter tank for some of them.

It is good to have one batch raised in i box just to photograph them the first 30 days.

Yes, having one group to study their development is good because you will learn more about them and there is certainly something to be said for having some in the box(hand) as opposed to some in the bush(caves).

Well.. I am a bit nervous. They look so fragile with their small bodies, and enormous yolc sacs. The count is now 27. Only a third has hatched. I will be very worried the next few days unntil the fry starts resembling fish.

I may be a long week. I think they will be almost freed of dependence on yolk about then.

and the only one is "deformed".

Well, perhaps you should do something with the cave, but I think thats probably the best way to do caves for cave breeding catfishes. And they are very natural looking!!!

What did you use the make that kind of cave?
I've spend days doing my "BNT" caves, but perhaps I will work with stones in the future!
My "BTN" Caves that I hope to breed L128 in...

Natural stones are not really easy materials to work with. Generally I think ceramics and clays are the most suitable materials for making caves. Of course wood too if wood eaters are kept. Very nice caves U got there

Today's update...
I have 19 fry left. I helped them all out of their shells tonight. It took some practice, but I think I know the technique now. My prediction is that the worst period is over. I expect one or two more to die due to damage of the yolk sac. It is strange to see how much they/me have struggled with the hatching. The Ancistrus triradiatus eggs in a separate breeder box pops out of the eggs like popcorn. No worries there

Todays update.... Everything is fine with the 18 remaining fry. Maybee I will loose one more due to damaged/strangely shaped egg sack. The male seems comfortable in his cave again, and I hope to get a new batch soon. Because of the plastic breeder box it is impossible to get really good pictures, so I will transfer one fry momentarily to an all glass tank for photography. I shall post a picture later this evening.
