Aside from fish I love to cook, mostly pasta and italian (although I can cook Chinese, Korean and Philippine food as well). I also make different sausages and bacon. And I love to barbecue. I used to have my own restaurant back in the early 90s (house specialty, Eat-all-you-can Mongolian Barbecue).
I collect Sci-fi toys. Ships from Starwars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and some characters from Japanese anime cartoons.
I love the blues, Jazz and Samba. Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, Stan Getz, Dave Brubeck...
I take care of my Isuzu SUV and love to tinker and toy with it.
I also love black leather on weekends (although it is pretty darn hot in my country) and cruiser bikes .
Regards,
Mike D.

Hello everyone,
Why aren't there more people playing around with intruments? I get my didgeridoos out at least two three times a week and I might not be that good at playing them but it's great fun! I even read loads, recent favourites are fantasy by Steven Erikson. I'm also active within a martial art called Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu in order to get into shape a little. Those three and my fish tanks manage to tie up most of my free time when I'm not working.
bye,
Andy

Based on my experience, the sad thing is this: Most people with ONE nerd hobby (such as... um... keeping lots of tropical fish to the point that they can overwhelm our lives?... yeah, that!) end up having MULTIPLE nerd hobbies!
For me, they are
- N-scale model railroading,
- computer programming in LabVIEW,
- gardening,
- gourmet cooking,
- graphic design (for the last 16 years, I've been making digital artwork for t-shirts and wall hangings at a church summer camp for 1st-6th grade kids),
- sculpting (most recently - pleco cave making; but before that, sculpting, molding, and resin-casting custom toys for the same church camp),
- wooden toy making (again for the camp (and my own kids)), I made custom wooden train cars with magnetic couplers (to match with Brio-style trains) to reproduce character train cars and vehicles from the "Thomas the Tank Engine" series, when the cars were not yet available for retail sale back in the early 2000's,...
- Oh, and costume design and creation for ComiCon conventions (REALLY amateur Cosplay-style: I make these with my kids for them to wear to local conventions)
In reflection, I see I'm mainly a DIY guy. I like to do things, make things. I read so much at work that I don't like to read much in my free time. That said, I do enjoy, in a hobby-like fashion, a good investigation, especially in regard to how to make new things or discover old knowledge (like old fish species descriptions). That can involve a lot of reading.
Yep... TOTAL NERD
Cheers, Eric

Can't say mine are exactly nerdy:
Beer (I like dark beer, which has aged for a few years, and this beer is not available in the shops, so I age it at home)
golf
teaching children to swim
reading mostly fantasy/SF

MMORPG(? is that right?) ... surprisingly, that is the best hobby I have. I also have been painting models (Gundam) and working on making different things out of metal.. all things I can do relatively cheaply before my move!

Brace yourselves... In no particular order...
1) Freediving, the freedom of being so far underwater and not having the clumsy weight of tanks.
2) Bowhunting and hunting with other primitive weapons helps me feel connected to nature in ways man kind has forgotten to.
3) Wildlife photography
4) Fly fishing
5) Fly tying
6) spearfishing
7) running
Reptile keeping/breeding
9) Arachnid and myriapod keeping
10) League of legends (video game)
11) fish keeping
12) traveling
13) training with different weapons (knives, machetes, tomahawks and recently staffs)
14) survival/ primitive out doors living
I always seem to pick up a few more hobbies, would love to get into whittling and wood carving...
