Two more spawns: Monday morning I discovered the Dekeyseria picta L052 spawned over Sunday, and Monday evening the L201 big spot spawned again.

And two more spawns yesterday and today:
  • Hypancistrus debilittera (my first spawn from these after a couple of years of inactivity)
  • Rineloricaria eigenmanni

30 spawns in 3 months: I'm sure we're not done yet, because the Ancistrus sp. Rio Paraguay and the Dekeyseria picta have both been trapping on-and-off for several days now. Any moment... :-)

Before I write this next update, let me first say I realize this might be getting annoying after a while or seem like bragging; but I do not mean it to be so. I thought about stopping the reports, but frankly I'm just blown away at the spawning going on in these tanks right now. Since 5 December, I'm averaging 1 new spawn every 3 days. I continue to report because I'm wondering when it will end and I've decided to ride it until the success breaks. I'm also looking for any patterns that might emerge. So far, I've noticed that the minimum spawn interval for my L052 is 12-14 days (also reported
here).

I hope you don't mind sharing the ride. :-)

Three more spawns over the weekend: Saturday night a new spawn from my . Monday morning I arrived at work to find a new spawn (my 6th) from (). Monday eve I came home from work to find a new spawn (my 6th) from the small .

33 spawns in less than 14 weeks. \:d/

Hi,
Amazing set of spawns, the fish must be in top condition. Id be interested in water conditions/feeding regime?
If you do decide to ship, please let me know as I would be interested in some of your offspring. Happy to take the risk with some of them at the kind of prices that you are asking for.
Thanks

Thanks. Aquarium water conditions vary tank by tank, and are published in my BLOG reports. I do not ship, but I do plan to bring offspring that make it to sellable size to the All Aquarium Catfish Convention next October. Will you be there?

#CoronavirusSexyTime! During the last week I found two more L397 spawns and today this: Free-ranging babies in my "toilet flush" tank. Probably more Dekeyseria picta. I've been grabbing every egg clutch I've seen to hatch the fry in baskets, because I'm concerned that the tank is too violent for the fry and might be challenging for feeding. But today I found over 40 fry, about half way through their yolk sacs. Based on their maturity, I estimate the parents must have spawned about 14-16 days ago.

37 spawns in 15 weeks! :-BD

I hope you have a few empty tanks lying around, you must have over a thousand fry by now!

It might be time to convert the bath tub into an indoor pond until you can get out to club auctions again :)).

Fortunately(?), I'm not that good with raising some. I do have (easily) over 200 Dekeyseria picta L052 and Ancistrus sp. Wabenmuster and Ancistrus sp. Rio Ucayali and Panaqolus sp(L397), but I still have only one Rineloricaria eigenmanni, two Ancistrus sp. Rio Paraguay, about 50 Ancistrus sp. Rio Tocantins, and an unknown number of Ancistrus claro.

I need this shelter in place order to end so that I might sell me fish.

Wow, that's awesome. I am always amazed when I walk into my fish room and see new fry. I have shellies in a 100g that are always pumping out fry but it is so cool seeing new life. I have 2 spawns of calico BN of about 100 combined. The only thing I can claim doing is adding caves months ago. If you were to do shipping like others have asked I would be interested. No LOA guarantee needed.

Do you attend the GSAS meetings in Seattle? I spoke there about 16 months ago (Jan 2019). I brought up several species of plecos and corys at the time and they were auctioned off at the club meeting. I don't get up that way often, but I do occasionally. I've got family in the greater Puget Sound area.

Like you, I love seeing babies and eggs. I got a group of juvenile blue-lipped buffalohead cichlids from Lawrence Kent back in November. They are just about minimum spawning size, and I come into work every morning and stare at their tank, hoping to see eggs or fry.

Cheers, Eric

No, I don't. It is something I have considered but haven't made it yet.

Yes, it's legal (with TSA) to bring bagged aquarium fish in your carry-on luggage (not in checked suitcases). I do it all the time. It is up to the discretion of the TSA agent, and some people (I've heard bad stories) have had to abandon fish at the security check point, but that's never happened to me yet.

I moved from NYC 13yrs ago and had a complete antique 5g aquarium setup that I packed into a styro with the fish in bags. I had to open the box at the ticket counter to prove quality of packing. The glass in the aquarium cracked but the fish survived.

Dude, sorry, that's not my intention. I'm just so pleased with the fish right now that I want to document how long this keeps up. There was nothing magical that happened in December to kick-start all these spawns. They just did. I'll stop reporting with the frequency slows down. In the meantime, I'm getting great information about interspawn intervals and also lots of practice with egg clutches to figure out how best to get them to hatch, and how to raise the fry. ;-)
