I will be transferring them into a fry tank tommorow. Has to be slightly bigger than planned now, as looking like I will have more fry sometime soon.

Good for you, Paul. :-BD. And Teresa, yeah you'd better have a good-sized fry tank. ;-)

Cheers, Eric

Lol he seems to be the most actively breeding of the three males. Reckon he will breed with all five girls :)). Going to be a busy boy. Might try to find another male to help him out. :)).

Lucky guy :)

My little ones are very reclusive and fast-moving, but I have managed a couple of photos this evening. In one you can see Mum in the background for a size comparison.

Please forgive the vast population of MTS; they seem to do a good job of cleaning up after the Panaqolus so I let them multiply.

Loving the baby pics Paul. :d . Still have the male intermittently trapping but now a second male has joined and has been attempting to trap on of the two females in the approach tunnel so I gave him a cave. Keeping a close eye but its amicable and the boys are playing nicely. Could have two batches of eggs potentially.
Thanks @catfishchaos !! Oh yes its been a long road sometimes with difficulty very happy to be seeing some success now for both Paul and myself.

Agreed! Tommorow they will be transferred to a fry tank size depending on whether dad has more eggs. He's trapping for the third time in two days. Male next door is fanning like the clappers to get the girls attention looks to me like he has. ;)

So I need to start thinking fry tanks now. Parents were showing signs of interest but its cooled down a bit, probably as I have been keeping an eye on the babies in the breeder box, also there's been a couple of escapees I occasionally see in the parents tank. Egg sacks are used up fry are nibbling on food now, so my plan is to move the babies to a tank on the shelf below. Will use mature filters, ssoft wood ect from the adults tank. Then cover the adults tank so they're not disturbed too much. I'm inclined to use a small tank but more babies are very likely so I'm going bigger than what is ideal but distributing food so fry can find it easily. That's the plan.

Exciting times, Teresa :)

I've been away for nearly a week but have seen at least one of the little ones since getting back - and it's grown a bit more.

Had a bit of a panic this morning when I saw an orange-yellow clump of something on the powerhead intake. Spent about 10 minutes trying to get a hatchery box set up for the 'eggs' before I realised it was a mushy bit of sweet potato! Oops.

Yep I get you Paul about the scare. On Friday, very short of time, because of needing to set up fry tanks I popped 5 minutes down the road, rather than ttraveling further to pick up some dechlor. Usually I avoid this particular LFS like the plague, as its seriously questionable in their practices. (You'll see why!!!) So off back home I went to get on with the job in hand. I set the fry tank up using equipment from the adult tank, and filled it completely with water from adult tank. I moved the fry. Then refilled the adult tank up. Except it wasn't dechlor I used I'd been sold something by the same manufacturer in a similar bottle. It was a cloudy water product potentially harmful in high concentration. As soon as I noticed (It wasnt long but long enough for me to panic).I got on to a good friend who worked at another LFS, who put me in contact with a fish rescue and welfare organization. Unfortunately they see this kind of thing all too often when deliberate attempts are made by people for whatever reasons dumping things in tanks. (I Dread to think) so they know a thing or to regarding courses of action in these events. They were brilliant and advised me on a course of action. Turned out well in the end though. All my Adults are OK, I even found a baby alive and well in dads cave, there's possibly more. A good sign of no lasting damage. All the fuss obviously had slightly disrupted the breeding but signs are good today tanks covered, but I had a peek. Phew close call!! Yep I own up that I should have rechecked what i was putting in, but in the rushing about I didn't. It was a bottle by the same manufacturer and I was familiar with the dechlor instructions. When you go to a shop and ask for something it's what you expect to be given. Lesson learnt anyway.

Lucky for Teresa, that all worked out. :-) I learned to check labels when preparing meds for my infant children. Dosing is critical obviously, but it means nothing if you use the wrong meds (or fish chems).

Cheers, Eric

Was a worry and I never like to add anything unnecessarily to my tanks. Dechlor and medications if fish are ill is as far as it goes, yep your right! If its the wrong thing what's the point. Just relieved there was no untoward effect.

Yep. Adults fine. And babies are doing really well appears they are eating etc. Mostly the wood, going by the tiny panoqolus poops! It's difficult to get pics of the babies as they group together in the back corner of the tank. What are you feeding yours? Obviously sweet potato ;) but have you seen them eating anything else. I've been putting in exactly what adults eat so for they don't seem to eat it. I added 3 similar sized, but established and eating bn fry in the attempt they will show the L397 fry how to eat. They've been in the fry tank since Friday so they must be eating as they seem OK.

I haven't seen any of mine eating the sweet potato! The only 'food' I've seen them eat is my Repashy cubes. Otherwise they must just be chewing on the variety of branches in the tank.

I make the Repashy with about 3 parts morning wood, 1 part meat pie, 1 part soilent green and 1 part chlorella/spirulina powder. Once mixed I pour it into an empty frozen-food tray (from bloodworms etc) to make a load of half-inch size cubes. They keep in the fridge for a few days, ideally covered in clingfilm to stop them drying out.

I might try them with courgette tonight.

I did remove a piece of courgette the other day to find one who didn't want to let go of it!! I'll try feeding the repashy as I have the combination for your recipe here. :)
