This 14cm speciemen may be the same species or not. It was caught in a local fisherman's net in a deep (>2m) section of the main river

...and I believe the head shape of these indicate B. unimaculata instead of B. ocellata.

Anyone got any thoughts on the cyprinids in the previous posts?

On to the Balitoridae... Great little fish to observe and photograph in their natural habitat.

This is actually as benign as it gets because it had been exceptionally dry. After rain, the river rises by several meters and turns into a raging brown torrent within a few hours.
