In a permanent set-up they would grow quicker than in an LFS. Plus they are likely to get a better diet. I personally would get the plecos first and well established before adding other fish anyway (and its easier to quarantine small groups of small fish) than plecos.

I know it is a painful moment. Manny that have been in the hobby for quite some have experienced such pain. I know I have. So mentally I think I have subconsciously prepared myself should it happen again. I never lose sight of the fact that as much much happiness I get from the hobby. I can also get much pain and that is what probably fuel my desire to try harder.

I like to say there are mistakes but all mistakes are just lessons, some may be harder to understand and others may be discouraging but if you learned something it was not in vain.

Credit to you though that you didn't give up as i know from experience that you probably would have felt like doing so.

Im extremely self aware and put a lot of thought into every emotion that I feel when I feel it, It didn't take me long to figure out the depriving myself of an L-cat project would do nothing but prolong my grief and sadness, moving on is the best thing for me to do but always remember that moving on is not forgetting.

An easier pleco breeding project in order to gain some experience -if you haven't already done so- would be a pair or trio of common bristlenose plecos. It would at least keep you (probably very ) busy while the L128s were growing to breeding size

I see your point though, Im hoping to get that experience from my first.

I gues your tap water's PH should go closer to 7 once you add some aeriation. Just letting it stand in a bucket or something for 1-2 days should raise the ph quite a lot. Unless there is something very strange about your tapwater xD

I've got a pair of ABNs for the same reason. They've not started yet, I did have a trio but the one l was told by LFS was a female? suddenly had a bristle growth spurt, so has been moved i will stick to the pair now, more than enough.
