Allen, I know what you meant by this, but it just sounds wrong... AND really interesting and funny! From this comment, I now understand why CatCon is so popular! :-D
Eric

Okay, I know you all are trying to encourage me (and everyone else who hasn't been to CatCon) to attend the next meeting, but really, you are FREAKING ME OUT! First it was the late night beer fests - those sounded pretty good. But then it was meeting your dealers, and now it's fish food and insect juice. What the heck goes on at these meetings?!? Sounds more like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers!"

If you drink enough beer first, you are often willing to eat just about anything.

I got home from the US a couple of days ago and have just about finished unpacking, washing, tending new fishes and also sorting through some 600 photographs. I thought I would upload a few here...

Interesting video. I am amazed at how much effort went into those rooms. Also, I can't believe the hotel let people do this (think of the possible water damage, etc.). That's awesome!

Not only let us - They give the occupants extra tables to set up their stuff! Plus, they let us put all the catcon folks on the 2nd and 4th floors so we don't have to deal with any noise complaints. They're already begging us to book 2016...

Was not all about drinking beer, eating fish foods and chatting....the collecting outing. Was high water due to a recent rainfall but was still a nice day!!

We did, in hindsight, perhaps we should have just sat down and let it all pass by us; but there was just so much to do. I love the collecting trip, but I think perhaps the room sales should a Friday PM and evening thing. Most of the time I spent on the infamous third floor was past, often well past, midnight.

jp11biod wrote:I think Barbie and TTA have a good idea. The speaker lineup is incredible and I hope it stays that way, but I think the Convention could be improved by adding a series of other talks, and/or round-table discussions. I went to the National Aquarium on Thursday and spent most of the day Friday looking for something to do.
Andrew -- consider a bunch of one hour sessions with local breeders or hobbyists that can answer detailed questions on the hobby. Titles to consider, "Everything You Wanted to Know about Breeding Loricaridae" or Cories, or Live Food, or Filtration, Shipping Fish, AquaScaping, etc. Most of these talks would not even need a PowerPoint. Just get a facilitator, an expert, and a group of interested hobbyists in a room together and it would work.
I enjoyed the Convention immensely but something like this, would make it even better.

We did something like this with our first event, we called it mini presentations.
We invited experienced hobbyists, especially those with a do it yourself bent to give mini presentations in a second smaller meeting room We had 10 mini presentations throughout the day on Saturday.
