Attempts to breed L14

As Janne says... there is differences between the powerhead and streamer pump, but I promice that it is quite good circulation in the tank.
I will lower the cirkulation a bit for some weeks wich makes it more easy to feed them and I will try to get the female more gravid.

Cause of the pumps, I have a them of 29- 30 degrees and a bit cooler water comming in from the central filtrations.

I had anoter spawn from my L114s again so I hope there is good chemistry in the water!

Benjamin... parhaps you could take some shots form above... and compare them with mine. I know they are a pair cause they have made breeding attemts in the past.
I hope we will have succesful breedings soon!

For those of you with larger L14s, approximately how old are you fish and how big are they. I want this info so I can compare the growth of my 4 and begin to plan for tank upgrades.

Most large fish are probably wild-caught relatively mature fish, and from what Janne has said, large plecos are mature, in nature, after a couple of years, where the same fish in captivity will grow a lot slower - the thinking is that this is due to more limited food (in availability and quality) as well as water quality and oxygen levels.

Their growth rate will slow at about 5-6". From then on, maybe about 1-1.5" a year. I agree with what Mat said, wild fishes do grow much faster than fishes in captivity. But if you're able to provide a pond, you might be able to get growth rate comparable to in the wild. It's been proven with L-numbers generally noted for slow growth, such as panaque and L56.

Found another piece on sale at my lfs. They state it as L14(Sao Felix). Any idea of L14 collected from different points of the river will look different?

Im no expert on Scobinancistrus but I give her green wafers and fresh shrimps... a bit more meat than normal.

I will probably also give some more carnivore pellets to her.

Perhaps Janne has better knowledge of this...

Those adults are stunning. Is it only L14 of the 'goldy' plecos that keep such vibrant color as adults?

Some trapping, but the cave isn't appropriate I wld say, not big enough. It's 9inch long, Only as long as the female, male is 12" long. What a waste, but still some good news

I offer plecos a range of different sized caves because I don't know exactly which one a given pair will prefer. It makes more sense to me than simply sticking with several identical caves. Just my 2 cents.
To take it a step further, I offer caves made from different materials. Who knows what texture or even shape will be preferred? Some may prefer a more convoluted shape. There are many more variables to consider than a particular dimension. The locations should vary so some are within an area of faster current and some less.
Many different choices is keeping more options for the fish available. Until we can read a fishes mind I do not know how else you will discover what a species which has never been breed, or at least not any published account you have to be pretty lucky if you can divine their desires from so little data.
If you were using a pond you could offer even more different potential breeding caves than is possible in an aquarium.

apistomaster is right on if you ask me....I always try different caves. Size and kind....I use granite and oak caves for my plecs....even different color granite seems best to try out as I find some like one color over another where others don't care. Experiment with different things..and sizes and this will help out.

Someone beat me to it! Oh well, I am still going to keep trying anyways. They are such a beautiful fish! I have 2 adult fish 9 and 12", 2 sub-adult fish 6 and 7" in a 100 gallon tank. Mine are being fed shrimp, algae waffers, bloodworms and large pellets. My favorite pleco by and large.
