Also I believe that reporting before the actual breeding makes it more fun than just sharing with the use of an article.

I need your advice or opinions on a matter.... The temperature is currently steady at 28,2. Should I carefully raise it to 30-31 during the next 48 hours? I am thinking of the temperature where these fish actually live and breed and the speed of development in the embryos.

Also... Do these eggs look healthy and fertile?

I always use a net where I place the eggs hanging down into the hatching container with an airstone or the inlet of the water sligtly move them a little, I found it difficult to place them at the bottom much more sensitive to fungus. I move the net every day turn the eggs around, sometime a few eggs is attacked by fungus but mostly all eggs hatch and I release the fry into the container. Desinfect the net if you use an old one before you place any eggs inside (chlorin works).

I have placed them in a net as you suggested, but it will effect the following photographs as I will have to release the eggs to the bottom to photograph them. Thank you:)

About the couple I will have to negotiate about a certain amount of fry. I gave my friend the female, becouse he had the male. Anyways.. The details of the deal is between him and me.

They look fertile to me! The white cup on top of the eggs!?

when are you giving the parents back??? you should give the temperature raise a try if your not giving the parents back, because if the eggs die due to the temp. raise(which i hope wont happen ) you can always try again and when they spawn next time you will know what to do
you learn from failure not success-(i always say this to my self when something in my tank goes badly)

They look healthy to me...my opinion on the temperature change is to not change it, I find if I start messing with things adds to the potential of disaster...may take longer to develop but they are developing IMO.

I am happy to read this, it is actually cheering me up as I am not having a very good evening. I cannot wait to see how htis turns out as they are beautiful fish that i hope to someday keep!

All the eggs are still nice and yellow. I have decided not to mess with the termostat. The 24 hour picture will be taken and posted around 6:30pm.

So sad to hear this news, however, they have spawned once-I'm sure it can be done again!

My conclusion (it might be wrong) is that the eggs were bad from the very beginning. They are not supposed to look like this:

I have removed exactly 55 dead eggs and have 5 left. These are probably going to turn bad too, but I wont flush them before I am 100% sure tomorrow.

The total spawn was exactly 60 eggs.

These are 3 of the 5 remaining eggs. They seem to be quite empty. Just in case I am wrong I will keep them unntil they turn milky.

If I don't remember wrong, this has been the same problem with the other breeding attemts with L82?

I suspect that they where sterile the... I can't se any other option, way they got bad so fast.

We have achieved a lot in a short period of time. The female will need some weeks to produce new eggs, and we will see

unlucky harvarrd better luck nest time
maybe you could try doing the temperature raise next time and see how things go

I'm no expert but looking at the eggs in this stage am I right that you can see white in the eggs? You can see it best in the bottom eggs, the centre looks the contain a white blob. That means the egg is dead doesn't it? I have seen this in corydoras eggs too.
I thought this ment that the eggs were vertile but died, the embryo has died. If the egg goes completely white or turns completly milky it is unvertile. Or am I wrong on this??

Since I was there right after the spawn there should maybe be leftover sperm residue in the cave. I could see none.

Anyways... If they were fertilized there most have been something very wrong with the eggs. We will see next time or the time after that.

The remaining 5 eggs have not turned white yet. I made some closeups. I don`t want to seem desperate, but are we seing embryos?

I'm not saying you are right, but yes, I do see "something" in there. Whether it's just lumps of fungus, or little fishies...

I agree. I missed saying "I do hope you are right..." in the previous post. Didn't mean to sound quite so negative.

I also think there are quite a few reports of first spawn of Loricariidae being less good than further ones - the assumption is that the eggs are "old" which affects the fertility.
