Amazing photos, I agree it is a bit overcrouded and some of those fish are going to grow but I am amazed that none of the fish has a single bitemark or ragged fins, perhaps the amount of fish in the tank/lack of teritories is preventing teritorial behavior, like in an african lake cichlid set up.
Nice dark substrate would really finnish off that tank but perhaps the bare bottom is justins secret to success, it makes it easier to clean, I mean if you remove the waste every day it has no time to decompose. How often do you clean the tank justin?

I think his translation may have been misinterpreted.
I read it to say that by NOT provideing ample caves and therefore causing the fish to create territories there is no fighting as there is no cave or territory to protect or fight for.
Which is an interesting take on the whole territorial situation.
Just my 2 cents but don't forget that a totally natural situation may not be in the best interests of a fish. Nature has numerous predators, flood events, drought events, pollution events etc. Just because a setup is biotype or naturally correct dosnt make it the best option for a fish.
Happiness, contentment etc are human emotions. Fish are basically interested in eating while not being eaten and reproducing. To say the fish may be 'happier' or more content in one particular set up over another is perhaps to confuse the emotion of the aquarist at provideing what he or she feels to be a more natural environment, with the ability of the fish to thrive in the setup provided.
Those fish certainly look to be in excellent condition to me.

Yes, the bare tank base is easy to clean up, we may the easily discovery fish's excrement, it be able to concentrate in the water not most mobile place, usually is in one or two positions.
Bottomless granulated substance tank is possibly a shortcoming, but also can regard as the merit which is manages, only needs the more formidable filtration system to maintain the water quality.
I about two days trade the water 40 liters, I had own method to be able one day to clean up tank several times, only the detachment fish's excrement, these only needed the short several minutes inside, could not lose the water.

I agreed your view, the fish which is raised by the people, they can remember who the master is, and in fixed foods and so on place, time.
The Chinese people like raising Scleropages formosus, when quantity only then 1 time, raises is does not have the question.
If the wish raises more Scleropages formosus, quantity 2 perhaps 3 in limited tank is improper, can discover their easy battle.
In gathers the tank raising quantity which raises above 3, perhaps raises other large-scale fish, can help to reduce the battle.
Considered from the fish only quantity that, I knew raising quantity many or few healthy methods, in removes under the artificial mistake, they can live ten years above time, I most long pleco sixth branch has lived 7-8 year, some pleco is from the childhood when buys, can observe their growth and the change.
Raising are more also large-scale pleco in limited tank, such difficulty can be higher, needs to consider the diet, disease, the battle, the water quality maintenance and so on¡K
