I take it all these "Bumps" will indeed keep your automobile running, but a new clue might do the trick
Btw: if you bump a car these days it's immediately damaged. What ever happened to steel bumpers?? At least they were able to do their job!

I seem to remember steel "bull bars" on 4x4s got banned as a danger to pedestrians.. maybe the same was true for steel bumpers on proper cars. They may protect the car, but kill whoever you happen to collide with.

The 'bumps' are just to keep the thread 'alive' & are not part of the clues....

To be fair, there is only one species, so Torbanite wins

"Hoplo, my son" would be the father's answer. Atrizona (arizona) sounds like it is from North America, Synonym is H atrizona PETROLUS which keeps an automobile going...

Over to you, Torbanite :D

Hooray the plan works again!
I would NEVER have bothered looking at that species if it hadn't been in this thread! :beardy:

New fish..

i) It is believed I may be a lip-brooder.
ii) I've got a cracking set of barbels - unusual for my family.

Who am I?

It was thanks to my copy of Covain & Fisch-Muller 2007, haha. I might not know my fish but I know where to look!

Okay, let's see:

"Unexpectedly, I've got a low eye."

?

Can't match the "unexpectedly" however.

You can expect from my name that something else is low besides my eyes.

could fit, still no idea about the species though

I'm new at this riddle-making thing, haha. Let me reword my clues and see if that's better.

I have low eyes, but unexpectedly they named me for something else that is low near my eyes!

perhaps

Hypoptoma means low head. Low eyes are not mentioned in this name - so unexpectedly, these are low too, and only 1 species is descrbed in the Cat eLog

Matt's got it. "Unexpectedly" was a double clue. "inexspectatum" also means "unexpected".

So close

so unexpected close. Had I seen inexpectatum I would have recognized the right species.

Matt - it's your stage :(
