New puzzle.. (for those not nursing hangovers).

i) An Anchovy with no feet.?
ii) My diet is mainly terrestrial beetles.
iii) One way to catch me would be to dig a hole and fish in the resulting puddle.

A give away:

Especially in this time of year and in these white conditions, you could easily create my common name (the * part not included).
I'm the huge one btw.

I can squint and make the first and second clue fit but no luck with the an ichthyologist bit.
Can find the god he frequently invokes though. Sounds a little like Tatia :beardy:

No.
ii) think more in terms of Asterix's 'type locality' to get the name of the first god (which doesn't sound like Tatia).

No. But you are on the right trajectory.

iii) I don't know if the god you need was ever mentioned in an Asterix comic, but Asterix ought to know about him (because he's a Gaul). The one you want is a common component of catfish names and has been mentioned more than once in this game (only 118 pages to search  ).

Once you've got that component of the name, there are still two other parts to figure out ;-)

There's no such thing as a Pretendoglanis (Brachyrhamdia imitator?).
Several Haras, but no glanis.
There is a Myoglanis, but not in the Clog.......

Hora (ichthyologist) + glanis (gaulish god) + krishna (Hindu god, mentioned in lyrics to "Boots of Chinese Plastic" by the Pretenders).

Did you notice it was almost a triple-god with Hora/Horus

Geeze, I'm out of practice but here goes....

Who needs a huge instrument that you can't even use to put you lipstick on with?
It wasn't the guy
Who was watching the sky
When the bombs made him pick up a pen.
Find him and cobble the species together.

I'll update when I get back to the ftp...

Not watching the sky... watching the ground.. was he upside down then?.... Mochokidae?
When the bombs made him pick up a pen.
A bomb rearranges things.. like ..like .. an anagram! :D
(quill) pens could be latin pinniculi.
pinniculi is annoyingly close to being an anagram of "lucipinnis" & is if I borrow the 's' from the bombs. (and use the remaining bomb to rearrange pinniculi) we get:

:?:

No plausible explanation for lipstick or huge instruments though...
.. but after a couple more beers I'll surely think of something..

If you have many more beer and you may resemble this fish, at least in posture :-X

Nope but marks for creativity.

Genus =
Who needs a huge instrument that you can't even use to put your lipstick on with?
And what's slang for his/her occupation?

Species =
It wasn't the guy
Who was watching the sky,
When the bombs made him pick up a pen.
Find him and cobble the species together.

This person had two major occupations. An event occurred that made him change from one to the other. The first occupation doesn't matter so much as he's known for his second.
The last line of my original clue contains an occupational and grammatical clue pertaining to the species.

Chiloglanis batesii
Nope. My fish is from another continent and has no keepers. One of his pictures looks like he's about to be served for dinner! We've only seen this genus once before.Previously Listed Catfish

The genus is a slang word for an occupation. A very peaceful occupation that one can do as an amateur or at certain ideal locations in the world. They use several sciences and almost always require a huge instrument that can't be moved.

The species is one letter off a famous writer that used to be a physicist. You got the 'cobble together' clue, now remember how catfish are often named, especially ones of certain geographic locals..This physicist might see this fish if he went for a weekend trip!

So, I'm thinking "stargazer" -> Astroblepus, but I can't for my life figure out which of the something-i names matches an author formerly scientist... Which could be that I'm on the wrong track, or that I'll probably kick myself when I see the answer because it's so obvious when you know... [Obviously, both at the same time is also possible]

We're looking for a name that is one letter off the writer and an object. The writer would have to stay on the west coast of a continent and go north almost to the equator, about 10 degrees or so. He couldn't walk that far, he would wear out his shoes.

The writer isn't that important if you have the other species clues. If one knew of the writer, he would have popped to mind but unlike someone like Hemmingway, most people would not have heard of him.
