Only a few survived, but have grown. They're all black and laying on the bottom of the container all day.
After 2 weeks, which includes a short trip abroad, there are still little strigata's alive and doing the same thing as mentioned before.
I do hope some will grow up!

However: Of all scenarios this is apparently the least bad choice. Thumbs up for the future!
It was indeed a very hard thing to do. But - as stated above- I couldn't give them away and I couldn't keep them. Given the fact that someone else on this forum is doing his utmost to keep a near dead Syno alive, putting 6 recovering Ageneiosus to sleep may seem very hard. I fully understand that. Believe me, this hasn't been an overnight decision. And of course I also have the responsibility for the health of my other fishes (as well as my own).
Currently the tank does well. Of my 20 auchenipterids I've found one T. taeniatus with (still) a few spots, which are becoming less each day. So that's good.
What I'll also do is avoid LFS's for the forthcoming weeks. I want this tank to get fully well again.

That would be a great achievement! You have to thank your mil for her good care during your holiday.

The Ich has been beaten. All my fish are healthy and spotless again. So the white has gone, but the blue has (re-)entered: blue algae (Cyanophyta).
Probable cause: with 17 fishes less (6 knife fishes, 10 Ageneiosus from 3 different species and 1 T. taeniatus), I have to feed less. It's as simple as that.....

Great news re: the Ich! Not so good about the algae, but a sure you'll beat that too!

If you could beat that ich, i'm sure you can beat that algae!

Should be no problem other than that they may become food competitors. Don't expect fighting or things like that.

The T. taeniatus are mating and the Spinipterus otorongo are trying to mate.
It's been quite a nasty episode, but at last things seem to be right again.

Looking good. I'm sure you'll pull these 4 through.
You may want to add a (very) small piece of wood in that floating tank to provide some cover.
And pls don't let them out too soon. Given your other fishes I think they should double in size first - if not a bit more.

Good to point that out Marc. In the video they are obviously stressed. This is a floating container for photographic purposes.
The rest of the time they live in an another container ( net) with some wood and plants.

Actually it was funny I put the two new female Midnights into my quarantine tank with the three new "Bumbles". The Bumbles were each nestled into their own groove on the sponge filter, and of course the Midnights immediately swam over to it and hid under it. The one smallest Bumble (who I noticed has a Napolean complex)
immediately left his groove on the other side of the filter and began to try to push them out. Of course the Midnights are considerably larger and didn't budge, just sat there with that endearing blank look on their "faces" while the little bugger tried his darndest to get them out of "his" territory.
From what little I have seen of them, they seem to be all playing nice now. Tomorrow is moving day, they go into the 40 with the other Bumble and the male and female Midnight. So sadly I probably won't be seeing much of the Bumbles any more
But the Midnights hang out under a piece of driftwood next to the glass with my female Green Dragon Ancistrus so I get to see them every day
.
You've had yours for 13 years Marc? That is awesome. I hope to enjoy mine at least that long!

OH, I would love to have fish like that! Where would you even get those? I have never seen anything like that in any LFS around here.

That's an extra good spot, so you can also keep an eye on the Ancistrus. It could be my bad, but a combination of auchenipterids and Ancistrus never worked for me - and the Ancistrus were always the agressors......

And still keeping them. Tough buggers; they have survived some nastiness in those years.
On a side note: the A. punctatus, which were small when I bought them in November last year, have already outgrown the A. coracoideus. Looks like there is one definite male, one probable male and two females.

Seems to be working out ok with the Ancistrus and the Midnights. "Esmerelda" has a hollow up towards the front that she snugs herself into. When the Midnights start moving around (usually when I drop food in just before I turn out the lights) she usually high-tails it out of there and goes and hides somewhere else. She is smaller than they are. There looks to be plenty of room for the other two females under the log when I ad them.
UPDATE: Ahhh I found out where she goes when the Midnights kick her out, she's in one of the decorations fighting with the one Bumblebee cat lol

On thursday I will be getting my long awaited first woodcats! A trio of
(@Marc I ordered the dunni look-alikes that you thought were a new species… received normal dunni. still amazing fish) , two adult mystery Tatia (look similar to
), and a trio of juvenile fish that are suspected to be the same species as the two adult fish.
The ich is definitely gone from my tank as the largest surviving denticetopsis has happily taken up residence behind the filter intake, is eating like a pig, and looks to be perfectly healthy. Nitrates are 0.

I'm looking forward to pictures of your latest assets and of course I hope you'll enjoy the fishes themselves.
Not the most regular woodcats, so a very good find imo.

The fish have arrived. I will post pictures shortly.
I did not use the PVC pipe idea. I tried it, but the dencitetopsis hated it. They were constantly swimming around and looking stressed so I put the driftwood back in.

I don't want to push you and maybe you are very busy, but I am quite curious wrt the pictures of your fishes.
Anyway, I hope they have settled in nicely and are doing alright.
PS: I noticed you haven't visited since the posting I quoted, so I hope you are doing alright as well.

I've taken some videos and pictures, but my tank is very tannin-rich so they didn't turn out too well. I've been very busy, but I'll try to post some pics/vids soon.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do this long-lived thread, which more and more became a kind of blog over the years.
Given the fact that it seems worn out after nearly nine years, I think it's best to close it.

Marc

Seems a shame to close it Marc - although input is (much) less than initially, it's good to have the ability to update/add to the thread as required. I'm always keen to read any new posts when they appear in this thread!
