Presuming from above that i'm right here is the next one..

I live with Frank Sinatra....? You might think i'm the best friend of Buzz!

These next hints are extremely tenuous (sorry) - i don't hail from the same place as Kal-El & haven't been in the Phantom Zone. I also am not really like an instrument played by Sir Patrick Moore.

New fish (actually it is quite an "old" fish in terms of its description date)
ii) I was described by someone born in Småland.
iii) I am a beautiful fish x2, from the family of beautiful fishes.

Who am I?

the "someone", who was born in smaland is definetly Carl von Linné.
So I would say or :?:

Linnaeus is the right describer :-) .. but Siluridae is the wrong family. :-(

Siluridae are beautiful fishes I'm sure, but Siluridae doesn't mean beautiful fishes. So neither of your suggestions would satisfy clue iii).

iv) I build bubble nests.

New fish:
1. My home area has seen Le Griffon and is home to a Royal Navy 1780 warship.
2. My range is huge, it extends from bannock to fried chicken, west to the best beef and down as far south as gumbo.
3. Several people keep my kind but I'm somewhat rare. Too bad since I'm a nice little fish that uses less energy than your average aquarium fish.
4. Invasive gobies are taking over most of my Northern habitat.

No but actually this fish almost fits my clues better.... So you got the Great Lakes with HMS Ontario but Le Griffon travelled all of them and used a particular passage to get to the great lakes. And you have to go a wee bit farther west to the best beef in Canada. Birger should be able to search for this fish.
clue 5. My colour describes my name. :-X

Actually I considered it...if it is the fish I am thinking of it is still a 4 or 5 hour drive away and is in a river that is actually part of the Mississippi drainage, the Milk River just barely makes it up into Alberta and it is the only native catfish in these parts...otherwise I have to go to southern BC to find introduced species. The Milk River area is also badlands with awesome dinosaur bone hunting and some native pictographs.

Birger

That's it, you astute fellow!
The fishermen around here told me two stories - scoop up the gobies and use them for bait or if you're conservation minded, scoop up as many gobies as time will allow and dig a hole to put them in. I guess the whole shoreline looks like it's moving at certain times and that's the gobies. On a side note several bait shops recognized madtoms from the pictures I brought in and they all have my number - no luck yet. It's possible they all now think I'm that crazy catfish chick... Guilty as charged.

It's all your Marc, updated in a minute.
