He sold them all very quickly. Pier has some in though, or at least they did a few weeks back.

It may be your friend's fishes are better fed, but mine are much flatter and more uniformly coloured. None of those 5 has anything that looks like an "upgoing" cranal area. Too bad the tank got a bit messy yesterday, therefore I decided to take no pictures.
The fishes of your friend remind me more of my trio I still haven't found a name for, but which look strikingly familiar to T. coriaceus, but with an adipose.

Yes, but it remains difficult. My C-log pictures (taken on arrival over here in Feb 2007) indeed don't show very flattened specimens, but when seeing them yesterday their shape reminded me a lot of .

As said before, it could be they are underfed compared to your friend's specimens. They are the "Auchenipterinae sp. Guyana" of my large tank, thus always the last to come out for food.
That was also one of the main reasons I had to say goodbye to my swimming dustbins, T. galeatus. The other swimming bin, Liosomadoras oncinus, was vetoed by my family.......

This is a view of the head of the adult male. I think it is different to your fish as your clog photos show a very wide head in proportion to rest of body (albeit they needed feeding up).

My auchenipterid hobby got a significant boost yesterday when Alex returned from OF-Aquaristik (aka Tanganyika.de) with a most unexpected species.
While I expected Triportheus albus (and/or nematurus) and Brachychalcinus orbicularis (all characins), he brought me 2 (females; these were the last 2 specimens) . How about that for a huge surprise
It was rather late when I added them to the tank yesterday evening, so I didn't see much of them then, but this morning they seem to be doing okay.
Pictures asap.

Thanks both and yes, the hobby could certainly do with a boost. They seem pretty happy and were feeding on mosquito larvae just now.

On a side note: are or aren't these the same that Neil has (had?) in stock for some time now?
They were discussed in here, but I was unable to find the right page......
I recall some people thought those were which I doubted, yet I didn't see them in real life. Weren't you interested in them Martin or am I completely off?

For some reason the image won't come along, but I found it on page 62, somewhat below the middle.
I'm still convinced it's not Ageneiosus sp. 3, but I'm also pretty sure it's not A. cf atronasus either.....

Well Arjan, you've managed to find a picture of a species I've never seen before.
But indeed, there seem to be quite some species that don't grown huge or rather stay relatively small. I am still very happy with my two new specimens, although the numbers of Gnathocharax are rapidly decreasing.......
One can be seen most of the day; the other hides somewhere (and I would really like to know where; saves me a lot of time trying to find it with a flash light), but shows up almost immediately after lights out.
This tank is doing fine atm, with the exception of the Auchenipterus nigripinnis. Keeping them in there is no longer an option, but I'm afraid their behaviour will stress the fishes in the large tank as well (although Alex doesn't think so).
Thus, I'm afraid that's the last option, unless someone else can provide them a quiet tank.

I'm very positive about the possibility that these fish will end up in a better home than the one I can provide them with and - although a bit sad myself - am very pleased with this outcome for the Auchenipterus!

A picture I took last night. Centromochlus concolor, Centromochlus perugiae (the spots are somehow fading; due to aging?), Corydoras axelrodi.

These concolor are really nice Arjan. It's a good thing they ended up at your place!

On a side note: anyone (relatively) nearby interested in a female Lio oncinus?

Nice try, Richard, but I'm afraid that is not going to work -).
I have got the idea that the UK doesn't mind animals being taken out, but bringing them in is quite a different chapter. Or am I mistaken?

If it's from within the EU, it's not a biggie. Richard needs to fill in the form on this page, and get it approved by DEFRA
