Hi Martin,
Wrt your T. gyrina: good thing you've found it again. Hopefully it will start eating and thus recover. I'm still quite convinced it has been sitting in a piece of wood and maybe it has been unable to get out of it. Did you redecorate lately?
Wrt Auchenipterinae sp. Guyana: I still have 6 left (of a batch of 12 which I've kept since 2004) which are doing nicely. Very elusive and apparently all 12 male specimens(?). I'll have a one week holiday next week and will try to make some pictures.

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
That's a real shame, Steve. No, I just remember wondering at the time how they'd look after they had settled in and seeing your images on scotcat reminded me to ask.The.Dark.One wrote:Hi Martin
Unfortunately 1 was almost dead when I bought them, and died a few days after, and another had a bad wound which also died a short while after. The Remaining 3 (all males) all did really well and got quite fat and grew, and then within a few weeks of each other died. So none left(
Have you come across any for sale?
The only pics I've got are on my Scotcat images in link below.
Yes, that's all I can assume. I did take the bogwood out last week and put it into a bucket of tank water as moved the cupboard the tank was on, so can only assume that caused it to come out.Marc van Arc wrote:Hi Martin,

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Huge... any chance that I recognize this fatty?
Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
I don't think that's the one you should/could recognise, although I'm not sure that this isn't the one.
She is a little fat, I know. I do not feed them a lot, I guess they just don't need much when they are kept at 18°C.

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
If there aren't many photos in the Cat-eLog, then almost any that have a fish that is at least somewhat recognisable will do. If there are more than 8 or 12 pictures, it requires a bit more quality before knocking out an existing shot.

Just to show how skinny the missing Tatia is, and what a couple of bloodwoms can do:
![Image](http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm98/MSwanston/th_b9915456.jpg)
At least it's feeding, not sure if it will ever get back to 'normal' though?

These are pretty hardy fish. As long as it keeps feeding, it may well surprise you!

I'd like to hope that's the case. As I said, am pleased its out feeding, and it seems to be a male, whereas the larger one is definitely a female.

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
It is Steve, well 2 of the three - I never found one of them.
I hope, maybe if the skinny male puts on some weight, I may get them to do the same.
I'd like to add to the group someday...

Well it looks like it is in the mend. I got a pair off him and they are voracious eaters.
IMO they are the creutzbergi 'form', rather than gyrina.
Pics of both forms:

Males are also on the scotcat pages.

So are you saying these aren't the in the Cat-eLog? Mine are the spitting image of the photos assigned to the species, so assume the ones you have are from the same 'batch'?

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Officially T. gyrina is the valid name; T. creutzbergi is a synonym (sorry, I didn't make it up). I believe Yann had (has) a spotted specimen that was also assigned to gyrina by mrs. Sarmento.
Or did I miss something (again)?

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Hi, yes they are officially the same (gyrina taking precedence). However, if you look at the revision one is hydrographically separate from the other and there are morphological differences, but they were synonymised. I personally think there are enough differences for at least subspecies level, and another ichthyologist could easily take the opposite view to the revision. In fact I have seen recent new species descriptions based on comparable or even less differences to similar congeners.
I have also spotted another morpholigical difference not mentioned by the revision but will say more in an article I am planning. Needless to say Martin that your fish will match gyrina in the clog because they are synonymised so both 'forms' are lumped together. However, based on the additional difference I have spotted, the ones you got via me are the creutzbergi 'form'.

Nice auchenipterids, Yann. You must have found a short cut to Glaser
Good to see that more and more woodcats make it into the hobby. Although more elusive than other fishes, these species make great assets to almost any tank. Keep 'em coming!

Hi!!
Thanks a lot!! Yeap, found a shop around here that makes order there which is very useful I must admitt since they are quite a lot of great species showing up there!!
Regarding their elusivness, I am rather surprise, they show up very fast once food is given, even with lights on
Still trying to find a few others but patience is the main concept!!
Cheers

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Really nice, Yann. Can't see your My Cats atm, but I gather you have a nice collection of woodies by now.
The male strigata on the picture has an elongated upper caudal lobe; a feature that also gives away the gender when the anal fin would be hard to see (which is obviously not in your picture).
I'll leave the unknown specimen to Steve, although I think it's one of the so-called intermedia complex. Some time ago I would have said it was T. neivai or something pretty close.
