Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
as long as I don't have a species-/woodcat only tank I think it's better you keep her by yourself. The chance they breed in a community tank, which is the only thing I can provide them for the moment, is rather small I think.

I found a female Tatia intermedia in a tank at my LFS.
They said they found it unexpectedly while cleaning a tank.
I got it for free
![Thumbup ](./images/smilies/icon_thumbup.gif)
In another LFS thay happened to have a male one (see the hazy picture above).
Thanks for the hint, Marc!

It's a very good thing that this fish has found a good home as well, so I think everyone is happy.
Moreover, no Germany or other distant locations. When compared to your usual daily route, I guess it didn't take you 5 extra kms to obtain them both![Wink :icon-wink:](./images/smilies/icon/wink.gif)

Who knows what a Tatia intermedia is these days.... There seem to more than one and probably even four species which form an "intermedia-complex".wrasse wrote:If that is a Tatia Intermedia (hmmm not sure...) its very nicely patterned.
Nevertheless, until that has been sorted out, to me this is indeed T. intermedia.

Maybe we need A-numbers? ;)

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
There are at least 6.
I have captioned five of them on my Scotcat pages as 'intermedia' (even though they probably aren't the true intermedia), and sp A, B, C, D (not posted up yet).

A-team!
I was amused to learn about the A-numbers idea/joke. I'd be happy to add these to the cat-elog.
I am joking!
However, could use image captions to note, what for now, is intra specific variation with a longer note in the ID field. Might mean splitting them later is easier. However as this species is bred in captivity, it is important we avoid what might be crosses.

Hi Jools
A good idea but the problem is that (in my opinion) some of the 'forms' are represented on the catelog as other species (I've mentioned this a few times on some posts).

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Nice! Used to have one in the old days, which was imported from Manaus (afaik) and came along as a single specimen with T. aulopygia. That box also contained 2 (which turned out to be a pair later on) A. punctatus. Those days..... almost every box contained a surprise or two. Sometimes there were nasty surprises as well, like a box from Africa that contained some stowaway ants that bit like hell.
On topic: very nice small fish; pattern is absolutely gorgeous. Where did you get them from?

Common name suggestion: "Pinstripe gangster suit catfish".

Hi, Yes I was being sarcastic. Having said that if I sell some they will be cheaper than the shops would sell them. Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Hi!!
mine are doing great, surprisingly the are the less shy species I have kept so far, about the first to show up when food is given even with lights on.
I think they have reach full size already, or close to
The rest of the time they stay hidden in the driftwood.
Rather easy to feed, they seems to eat any thing just like bigger species such as Tatia intermedia.
No breeding yet, I haven't seen any female "plump" but I am not sure to have a male in the group (of 5) so I am in search of males...a friend has possibly some...so I ll check that
Cheers

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Gobsmacked is not the word! Got home Sunday evening, and with the room lights off, checked the tank with a torch to see, what at first glimpse, was my single remaining T.gyrina...but it was too skinny to be that one. It disappeared, but when I got home last night from work it was hiding behind the filter, which happened to be in plain sight to me.Marc van Arc wrote:Any nice surprises, Martin?
![Surprise :-O](./images/smilies/13.gif)
So, although it's very skinny and I'm going to have to try and feed it up, I've gone back up to 2 specimens now. I doubt the third is still alive, but am amazed how this one had managed to stay hidden for so long!
It's just typical though - tank had wittled down to the single Tatia and my unknown Ogliancistrus/Spectracanthicus, and so had bought a shoal of cardinals and a couple of to add some movement, and then it reappears - will just have to make sure it's getting food so will start feeding with lights on and then adding some bloodworm after lights out.

Question for Steve (the.Dark.One) - was looking over your pictures earlier and saw the Auchenipteridae sp. that I'm sure you posted on here somewhere - how are they doing? Any new pictures?

Hi Martin
Unfortunately 1 was almost dead when I bought them, and died a few days after, and another had a bad wound which also died a short while after. The Remaining 3 (all males) all did really well and got quite fat and grew, and then within a few weeks of each other died. So none left

Have you come across any for sale?
The only pics I've got are on my Scotcat images in link below.
