Re: Cent. perugiae tankmate suggestions
Behhl, my plants and the sick fish are in different tanks. I "cleaned up" the plants in the 5-gallon tank the other day and they seem alright for now. I am going to see how they do in the next couple of days before I jump to the conclusion that they must be removed. The plants in my "sick" fish 37 gallon tank are all plastic.

Re: Cent. perugiae tankmate suggestions
Good and bad news to report today. The bad is that I found two clowns, my 201, and another C. perugiae dead this morning. The good news is that the fish still alive in the tank display few symptoms of the disease. Their skin no longer appears to have the coat of fine white spots nor is it peeling off. They are no longer congregating near the surface or at filter/powerhead outlets. Also, their fins are no longer/less clamped than the previous days. I will find out later if their appetites are returning.
On a side note, I've decided that banjo catfish are the cockroaches of the fish world. You could drop a nuke on 'em and they'd act like nothing had happened. All through this ordeal, they, and to some extent, my SA bumblebees, have displayed little to suggest that the velvet has affected them. I think it's worthy to note that my least expensive fish (BNs, banjos, and bumblebees) have done the best against this disease. The pricey ones floundered badly. As a grad student for years to come, I am going to take that lesson to heart.

Re: Cent. perugiae tankmate suggestions
Could be worse. Seems like the mass of dying has passed. To my best knowledge, I have 3 BNs, 1 C. perugaie, 4 SA bumblebees, and 4 banjos left. I think I am going to not restock this tank until after I move. It's only a couple of months away and don't need to add anymore fish to move than necessary.
Other than that, things seem alright. The 5 gallon coolwater is probably my favorite tank now. I got some legit aquatic plants earlier this week, along with 3 hara jerdoni.

Re: Cent. perugiae tankmate suggestions
Things are good on this front. I haven't lost a fish ( to my knowledge) so that is good. I picked up 4 Altum angels for $5 (I actually think they are scalar x altum cross cause they have the snout and coloring of the altum, but they seem to be rare for F1's or F2's.) Here is a link to my pics on another website. I have never post pics of every tank I have on one website or use the same name (to ensure that my pictures are stolen (why would anyone want my pics, they aren't good)) but I know someone once tried to pass off my 180 gal as theirs, so I am sceptical now. http://www.cichlids.com/browse/user/tango.html . I hope to keep those angels in the new 45 XT and also dwarf green pikes. I turned down a free L106 tonight because I didn't have a tank to put him in right now (I am going to regret that one cause I absolutely LOVE them)

Re: Cent. perugiae tankmate suggestions
Glad to hear that things are going well. Too bad you didn't have anywhere to put the 106- they look like a nice fish. I am looking forward to pictures of the 45 gal once it's up and running.nvcichlids wrote:Things are good on this front. I haven't lost a fish ( to my knowledge) so that is good. Re: Cent. perugiae tankmate suggestions
Thanks for the comment bud, I am still looking for what sand to use and rocks to weigh down the driftwood.
I don't know if I should do natural sand, red flint sand (it is natural, just with a red hint in it), or black sand.

Hmmmmm, that's tough. I am personally planning on converting my tanks to natural sand after my move, probab;y just play sand.

Re: Cent. perugiae tankmate suggestions
I have rediscovered why I have to keep away from PC for a while; I find a new catfish I must get and this is it! Does anyone know of any US distributors or private breeders of this fish?
But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I will be unique in all the world..... You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.

that is the place we both got ours from, I had problems (mine must have gotten stressed and got ick, only have 2 left, but they place refunded everything (shipping in cluded) for all 6 fish I ordered. I would order from them again. I know they have some and on Aquabid, Snookn21 has some too.

Re: Cent. perugiae tankmate suggestions
Mine were sick as well. I lost only one before the sickness subsided. Someday I may get more, but doubtful for now. But I do recommend That Fish Place That Pet Place. Solid service.nvcichlids wrote:http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/19329/product.web

Are Cent.'s known for sex changing? I had two females, and now I have a male and female?

Perhaps it was a bit young when you first got 'em, now it's more developed. Also, is it at all possible that you actually have 3 in there, but only seem to ever see 2? Just suggestions.nvcichlids wrote:Are Cent.'s known for sex changing? I had two females, and now I have a male and female?

Re: Cent. perugiae tankmate suggestions
nope, that is not possible, I pulled 4 dead from the tank, these are the only 2 left. I definately have a male/female pair which is neat, just wish they were easier to photograph
