My largest Hemiancistrus sp. L128 resting on a rocky pidestall. I really like the attitude of this fish. Reminds me of my old cat. It always finds new and strange places to rest.

The last couple of evenings I have tried to get some photographs of my Baryancistrus demantoides (L200 "hifin"). Unfortunately they don`t want to be photographed. Maybee I have more luck this evening. I have opened a can of green peas as bait.

Very beautifull , but why did you take out all the wood? I thought that was equally beautifull so there must be an other reason?

I simply changed the whole theme of the tank.
Currently the tank is used for my 10 Leporacanthicus sp. L240 and one juvenile L25. The L240s are growing at a rate I have never seen in a pleco species before, and they will all be mature quite soon I think.

Me too!

I have had a L007 Leporacanthicus cf. galaxias for more than 6 months now. It's a small specimen but it seems that it recently came into a fast grow rate. Besides that he or she is becoming less shy by the day now, so I get to see her/him a lot.

I have not had the time to make any good photographs of them yet, but I promise to post after the next photosession in the tank.

I see you have gravel instead of sand on the bottom, is this because of the strong current? sand gets blown away?

It is mostly sand less than 1mm, but in some high areas like on the picture larger sand/gravel particles collects. I have removed some of the larger particles by sifting it through a fishnet, and will continue to do so for a while. Two of the corners of the tank are bare bottomed because of the currents. This don`t really bother me.

I don't know what Haavard uses, but I buy "play-sand", and that is "calcium free", because it is "silica sand".

No discus. Originally the plan was to build a tank setup with a lot of compromises to keep characins, discus and L-numbers. The way the tank works today discus would not do well.

Currently the tank houses a group of 10 large and 6 medium sized Baryancistrus sp. L177, 16 columbian tetras and 6 Crenicicla compressiceps. I have not had the time to photograph the new inhabitants yet.

Wow, sounds similar to what I have been trying to work on.. although mine wouldn't look near as nice as yours. How are the C. compressiceps towards the other fish? I am debating on getting some of them or the C. regani and I do not know many people who have experience with them, so if you could help me out there that would be nice.

I really don`t know much about pike ciclids, but I don`t think they will disturb the much larger nuggets much. For breeding purposes I would imagine it not being a good idea, but I don`t expect to have a chance of breeding nuggets for at least a year. If the pikes lay their eggs in a cave I would imagine the nuggets would eat their eggs.

Thanks for your response, I found a female C. compressiceps tonight that was ready to explode (could almost count eggs in her belly.) I may have to purchase her and allow her to live with my keyholes for the time being. I am thinking of setting up my brand new 45 gallon Tall (36 Lx24 Hx12W) for breeding purpose of L129 and C. compressiceps (only problem is I need to move into a new place before it can be set up.) I purchased a large amount of driftwood tonight for $5 and hope that it all looks good in the tank. Will try to arrange it in there and maybe after I post the pics you can let me know what you think (or suggest another type of pleco/catfish to add to the tank.) Keep up the pics, love the vamps!

I know you ve been asked before I imagine, but what do you feed? what's your rotation? and is it every day?

You have the nicest fish and tanks ever! I am still throwing around ideas on what species to keep in my 45 gal Tall. I know the green pike cich lids will be in there, my group of 4 angels, then I am looking for pleco sp to keep. Yours are so beautiful, love the L177's.

The feeding program may help me deciding, what do you feed yours?

I feed them asparges, carrots, cucumber, squash, sweet potato, bamboo shoots, peas, beans and other vegetables. I also give them large quantities of algae wafers.

My goal is to let there be food available a large portion of the day and night when I have the time. Usually three times a day. Golden nuggets are not for lazy fishkeepers

It is less work and cheaper to feed carnivourous plecos like leporacantichus, pseudacantichus, hypancistrus etc. Golden nuggets are very nice, but demanding.

I have just caught up with this post having not read it in a while and once again I am amazed at the pictures!

I often see pictures online and think 'That looks nice maybe I will do that' but these pictures make me feel like going online, ordering a big tank, getting rid of my bed (so I have space to put the new tank) and trying to create something even half as beautiful as this setup!

A friend of mine who know a lot about local geology has identified the blackish rocks I use in this and other tanks to be a metamorph rock called Amphibolite. It is nice to have a name for it
