Is this a Queen Arabesque?

Post by Mike_Noren »

I bought 5 fishes which supposedly were wild-caught Hypancistrus L260 "Queen Arabesque".
However, one of them looks markedly different from the others. The others are dark brown with wiggly lines & dots, this one is dark brown with wiggly lines - and paired lighter-colored areas along the back.

Here's my normal L260's

Here's the weird one:

That isn't fright coloration - it always looks like that. Also it's somewhat larger than the four others.

(Apologies for the atrocious pictures - the fish are very shy, so the photos were taken at a distance of several yards in near darkness)

Is this an L260, or something else?

EDIT: I just noticed that there is a fish looking exactly like mine in the video in the first post of this thread:

The big one swimming to the left in the first seconds of the film looks *exactly* like my mystery L260.

Hi, I have an L260 (at least that is what it was sold to me as) that looks like your odd colored fish. Here is a link from "Planetcatfish" that shows a similarly colored fish.

Have a great day. :)

Thank you!

Yeah, that fish looks a bit like mine, actually it's even lighter-colored than mine is.

Also Janne says that it's an L260, so I'm simply going to put the light-colored blotches down to individual variation.
