haraldschultzi & sterbai
haraldschultzi & sterbai
Hi,
Iâ??ve got the chance to get some haraldschultzi and sterbai, for quite a nice price. My problem is that I find very difficult to tell them apart.
I have Aqualog catalogue and a Ian book but looking at those photos I can find no differencesâ?¦
Can anyone describe me a conspicuous difference, Ishould look for?
(I know their adult size is very different, but they are not in that stage yet)
Thank you,
Gul

Hi MatsP,
I have 'Breeding Corydoradinae'. There is a Sterbai log but no haraldschultzi, only a photo in some other breading log.
Meanwhile, I read somewhere in the web that one has the head white with black dots and the other has the head black with white dots. But I just canâ??t see that from the photos.
Also unfortunately I canâ??t see the photos from this link http://www.planetcatfish.com/cotm/cotm. ... cle_id=149
Thank you,
Gul

Very good photo samples of the two species, MatsP. You really can't confuse the two based on the trademark yellow orange in C. sterbai which are among the most attractive of the Corys. They are among my top three favorite Corys and one I raise. I think you'll find that sterbai are the much easier to breed compaired to C. haraldschultzi.

It should be noted that neither photo was taken by me, but rather links to the relevant photos on the respective Cat-eLog pages, and mathces the photos used on the Catfish Of The Month page for C. sterbai (except the link is broken, which I'm sure Jools will fix as soon as he has time to fix those things).

If you look at the two images you will see especially on the head of both fish, that C. sterbai has a dark background with light spots and C. haraldschultzi is the opposite, light background with dark spots. Also C. haraldschultzi has a longer, straighter snout. Both species have the yellow pectoral and ventral fin spines.

Isn't that what's been said in the Cat-eLog as well: C. sterbai have "white" spots in the face, whilst C. haraldschultzi have "black" spots in the face.Sp00ky wrote:i also believe another way to tell them apart is sterbai have white spots all the way down the face whereas haraldschultzi dont.
