Out of a bunch of freshly imported "L333 New Queen Arabesque" there was an expected amount of variation in pattern, but there was one that seemed a bit too disparate. The first fish (two pics; lateral and dorsoventral) is the one in question. At first I guessed an L 70, but the localities for L333 and L 70 don't mesh (at least from what I've come across). Of course they could have been mixed accidentally before export. Besides the pattern difference the dorsal fin base is much longer in relation to the body length relative to all other fish in the batch. The other pics are just to show some of the variation in the batch. I can get ray counts or more pics if they would help.
Take new pic's when it has settled down and show normal colouration, it can be a new Hypancistrus species that was found early this year in Rio xingu. If so it is also very variable in their pattern but it's a smaller species with smoth grey/black and white colours.
I really think it's this new Hypancistrus sp but yours show stress colours, it will get darker and sharper with time...wait a few weeks and try to take a picture without moving the fish.
