Hoplosternum spawning photos

Post by Mad Duff »

I was out most of the day friday but the wife informed me about 7pm that the hoplos had started spawning, they had pretty much finished by the time I got home a couple of hours later so I only managed these photos:

there was a few eggs scattered on the bottom the next morning and they were definately fertile but the nest was broken up at some point on Saturday :( , but this was the first time they had spawned so hopefully they will do better next time :) .

Are you sure the male isn't hooked up to an air filter? Nice photo sequence. As they say, practice makes perfect. May I ask what their diet is like?

He certainly did seem happy while blowing bubbles

They are partial to bloodworm, brineshrimp and discus granules.

Nice photos :-) ...waiting for my Lepthoplosternum to do the same...

...by the way, you fish are no longer "Hoplosternum"...they are "Megalechis".
Best regards,

Mark,

Nice to read - and SEE - that. Keep us updated in future spawns... I'm pretty sure they're gonna get it done right soon.

Hope my Megalechis thoracata get into "spawning mode" soon. 8)

Best regards.

Daniel.
