Ok, we've known for a long time that the Japanese market is where you'll find the goodies. I check this page every now and then, just to see what's out there...

We got the idea that we have a fairly good overview of what's out there of Hypancistrus species, but after taking a look at this site it makes me think again! Never have I seen such a collection!! They are all there, all the goodies, the rarieties, and some I have never seen before. Enjoy, but make sure you're sitting down if you dream of owning these fish:

Thanks to bring these site to our attention. But they only make the black and white Hemiancistrus sp all the more formidable for would be breeders like myself. It is very expensive trying to put together breeding colonies of fish in this group together unless you buy large numbers at a time and hope you have some M/F match ups. I see no sure way other than let the fish sort themselves out from large numbers of look-a-likes except L260 which seems more consistant than most I.D.'s.
There are either more species than we've dreamed of or like wild Smphysodon aquifasciata we are seeing color variants of fewer species that can freely interbreed. As the numbers grow, L-numbers become less and less useful.

You get the price of those Hypancistrus in euros when you ignore last two numbers in pricetag.Some where sold as cheap as 1500â?¬/ piece

The list price is not the real price. After you add shipping and look alike different species mixed in with what you really want the prices easily double. Then you have some losses and the real cost of the fish goes higher still. It just isn't like buying a standardized product.
