Food Grade Plastic Containers (UK)

Post by AndrewC »

Found a company online that sells Food Grade plastic containers in the UK, called "Plastor".
http://www.plastor.co.uk/contents/pages ... index.html.
You need to phone them to get a price for the containers, as they do not advertised the prices with the containers.

I am getting a couple of RM70 T, they cost £84.70 plus vat, working out at £100 each, plus delivery.
Lids for the tanks are extra.

A 60 gallon water tank cost £39.99+vat without a lid, if you look around you may get it for less.

Kevin, do you work in the plumbing trade or something?

I was just thinking that same thing, you should be able to get a water-tank (like the ones you find in the attic of many houses) from your local DIY or plumbing-shop, and although they are technically not food-grade, they should be fine for storing water or even keeping fish in... Comes in a few different sizes...

These are delivered to your house, prices include VAT (and I'm pretty sure the local DIY/plumbing store will beat those prices - screwfix are good at some things, but prices for big/bulky items tend to be not one of them...)

If you can find a restaurant supply store near you, they might have what you're looking for at a better price. I recognize the "RM35T" etc. as a food ingredient bin for dry ingredients. These usually come with casters already, too.

Plastor food grade tanks are a bit expensive but i have not been able to find anybody else that sells anything like them.

I decided against Titan water storage tanks, because of the size of them, Plastor tanks are smaller and hold more gallons compared to a Titan water storage tank.
They have Titan tanks in my local B&Q and the 50G tank is very big, Titan tanks angle in a lot at the bottom.
Circular Titan tanks hold more for there size, but they are also quite large for the amount of water they hold.

Discounted heating gives you the size and gallonage of Titan tanks, but the second link has the same tanks much cheaper but without as much information.

http://www.bhl.co.uk/default.asp?t=735 (keep scrolling down the list, the rectangular and circular tanks are at least halfway down).

I'm sure I've seen better shaped water thanks than those - the K50R is very "stupid" use of floor-space vs. volume. Try Wickes, for example. [Sorry, Wickes doesn't have a decent web-site for their products, but I've looked at their 50g tank, and it's got a more clever shape than the B&Q one, IIRC].

Ah but water storage tanks (plumbing) header tanks, HW and CW tanks are all black.. are the ones you looking at clear? this may be the reason of the price?

I think Andrew may have already gotten himself some tubs, I think I see them in the photos of his fishhouse.

In the wholesalers you can buy a pack of 4 clear tubs, each holds 69 litres of water, the pack of 4 tubs costs £12.99+vat.
Andrew wanted large tubs/tanks so less were needed and the space could be managed efficently to his design, its why I didn't mention these smaller tubs as they wouldn't have been suitable as being cicurcular they would have used more space with the gaps between them being wasted.
