unknown grey fish, 2.5 inches

Hi - Please help me identify this fish! My mom went to the store and asked for "something that would eat algae." He is about 2.5 inches in length, but may be stunted due to a small tank. He is steel grey. Here is a photo that shows his back, as well as his mouth in the reflection. Thank you very much for your help.
