HELP, my angelfish has just started attacking the female one

Post by pictus_man_77 »

Usually, my two angels get on like a house on fire, but today, after i removed my two pictus cats and two clown loaches, and introduced some new plants, the male angel has started biting the scales and ripping the fins of my female. Why? i fear that the lfs will not take these two back as planned by me.

maybe the male angelfish has established his territory when you put the plants in there.

if he really rips her up you have
#1: a too small tank for 1 breeding pair of adult Angels
#2: too few "enemies". you just removed them......

adding other fish can and does help sustain a pairbond.
it's an old cichlidkeepers-trick; some fish are notoriously difficult to pair off.
adding a few harmless fish helps; the pair often "unites" against a common enemy.

Another trick is to try keep them natural-style. many people forget this, but Angels are shoaling fish...... in the wild they live in moderate groups of say 10 to a few dozen fish. In such a group pairs are formed and separate shortly from the group to spawn. (Angels aren't truly migratory; they find their group when fry-care is done for).

so you can try to add 3-6 similar sized (!!) Angels after you re-arranged the tankdecorations to break existing territories.

then why put a topic on them here with questions when you get rid of them in less than a day?

looks like I've been wasting my time and advice.
not good.

no no, not at all!
i was curious as to why my two angels have been fighting, and you answered, thats not time wasted, thats time gained for me, instead of looking for the answer elsewhere!

BTW, 2 seems like the most reasonable answer for my situation
Thanks
