can you help me figure out what catfish i bought??

A few months ago, i was in a local fish store, looking at the catfish they had in stock....and being a sucker for the cats i purchased a smallcat labeled as just a synodontis cat. Well as the cat has gotten older its color has darkened to just a black, but it has white dots on each side. I would provide a picture of my cat, but he hides during the day, and any pictures i try to take at night scares him away.....i would appreciate any help you could offer

thanks a lot, that looks just like the fish i have, and describes a lot of the personality i have noticed in my fish
