my Sorubim lima will not eat

. i have tryed every thing blood worm, live food, prawn and most other things. i have 2 pims in with him and thay eat enything and everything even live plattys!!!! haves enyone got eny idea why this might be and any tips to get him feeding again???

My first shovelnose did this. Have you tried lancefish? Mine love this now. But he only really started feeding properly when i got him a mate and now he feeds fine.

As suggested, I would get him a friend especially one that is maybe more laid back than the pims. Had the same prob until I introduced my marmoratus to my lima. The lima emulates what my big calm and confident marmoratus does even sleeps on top of him now. He in other words eats what the marmoratus eats, pellets, shrimp, earthworms, the odd goldfish.

This should probably go to the forum called "South american catfish (everything else)".

I'd say that the aren't helping at all - they are often quite quick at getting to food and eating, as you say, anything and everything. So the that is a bit slower and more of an ambush predator doesn't get a chance to ambush the victim, because the pictus cats get there first.

thanx for the help am now going to look for a Synodontis marmoratus for my lima and get rid of my pims. thank you for the help

Just a note but your Lima is going to eat large amounts of protien then fast for a very long time. Ours get fed from prongs once every 2 weeks Frozen shrimp.

I would get another Lima, they wont really fight between another. Mine only quarrel very occasionally and its usually because one is laid on top of another

Waldo can you send me a pic of your Shovelnoses please, i'd like to see how big yours are when you only feed them that often, i'm not sure how close mine are to being fully grown.

If he's stopped feeding for no apparent reason, you need to first test the water for nitrite and ammonia. (And ideally nitrate as well).

Providing your tank is big enough, and you follow Chrysichthys' advice, why not get more S.lima. They are shoaling fish after all.

hmmm, all of my lima sn, allways swim verticle. i put some grass in there for them to swim and hunt from. problem is they eat krill, and shrimp, but they allways try to eat the other fish in the tank that are much bigger than them. lol. Very cool to see them in the grass.

A prime example of a preditory fish eating a high dose of protien whenever it can find it which is going to be far and few between.
