Hi all.
Long time no see...
Can someone ID my ripsaw catfish? Comes from the amazon basin, is all I know for sure. It's an awesome cat too.
Juvenile specimen:
My specimen, from the same batch:
Any thoughts?
Best regards.

Marc,
The only thing I know for sure is that it's a Doradid. It looks like the drawings I've seen of
Megalodoras francisci , BTW, but I'm just guessing...

I think you meant Franciscodoras marmoratus , and while I agree that it looks very close to Franciscodoras (Anadoras has a shorter adipose fin), that genus is only known from the Rio São Francisco basin.

Maybe it is... But it's 6" long already. Bigger than
Hypodoras forficulatus according to the cat-e-log. Gonna confirm the right origin with the lfs. The employee said "amazon", but who knows... Could be from São Francisco Basin too.
Best regards.

Couldn't find out the exact origin of the fish, but here goes another pic of it, after the adaptation period:

Daniel,
Very nice fish. We do not see many unusual Doradidae here in the States.

Silurus,
I think the LFS employee gave me wrong info... These fishes came from a distributor/wholesaler in SE Brazil. They just assumed it's from the North/Amazon, but they are probably collected locally. I'll keep you updated, to make it easier to ID. My cat is a real PIG...
Best regards.

We should really add this to the catelog you know, it's not a species we have and I'd be tempted now to call it Franciscodoras...
