This appeared in the Times (London) and I quote it verbatim:

'A fisherman who tested the theory that fish are attracted to Jelly Babies found that fish were choosy about the colour they ate. Gordon Mullen, 55, from Leicestershire, created a data base and found that cod liked black ones, eels, orange ones, bass, green ones and that catfish preferred pink.'

It raises a lot more questions than it answers, one of them being does Gordon Mullen need to get a life, or what?

Anyone willing to try feeding their catfish pink jelly babies? My trusty Chrysichthys ornatus would probably swallow one.

My c batrachus didnt eat any at all but was very pleased with the plastic wrappers!

I can't tell if he's joking or not. My Asian red tail probably wouldn't actually eat a jelly baby, but I would find it the next morning floating belly up, covered in bite marks.

What exactly IS a jelly baby? Is it a jelly bean? Or perhaps a Swedish Fish? Will somebody please tell my what you are talking about

mmmmmmmm jelly babies. they are like jelly beans but soft, and baby shaped, which come to think about it, is a bit weird

It's no surprise to fishermen that fish seem to prefer different colour foods.

The perch for instance (Perca fluviatilis), will always go for red, as the perch hunts at twilight. Red light has the longest wavelength in the spectrum, and the evening sky is rich in red light due to the increased attenuation from the atmosphere (hence the red sky).

The eyes of the perch are adjusted to collect as much red light as possible (to gain an advantage over it's prey), so anything red will be irrisistable!

I'm sure this is true with many other crepuscular fish.

I've noticed in my tank that the red bloodworms are always eaten before the white or black mosquito larvae and mysis etc. Although that could just be because they taste nicer.

o i so want to try this, would feeding the odd jelly baby harm my common pl*cs ?????? doubt the fussy blighters would bother with them anyway

probably not a good idea.

it's most likely to dissolve in the water and turn your water into a sucrose solution.

That could affect the fish in all kinds of ways.

There's only one place for jelly babies to go...
