Need some HELP

I have a Syno Eupterus( at least I think it's a Eupterus)about 4-5" long. I recently noticed white blotches, NOT spots in the area betweem it's mouth and the eye level(where I would call the snout. Can anybody tell me what it might be? I just thought of this..........Although I plan on changing it to sand, I currently have gravel in the tank. Could it be that he/she is digging in the gravel? Thanks for any suggestions

Siluris................My cat's "problem" looks like tnhe picture from CanadianGuy, but ONLY the part near the nose. It does not have the white line on the body. I did a 25% change today, checked the PH. It was at 7.8 so I gave it a "shot" of baking soda. What do you think? Thanx
