hypancistrus......

Post by oscar300 »

:hi: Guys,

Saw these and had to have a couple. The shop had no idea what they were (L# wise) so I got them at a bargin knock down price :D
I have looked through Aqua log and the closest I can see are L307. These fish have very yellow tinged markings and I would love to get a Proper ID for them. They are only small, about 2 1/2" at a push.

hi!!
Yeap Hypancistrus!!

And I bet these are coming from Colombia!!!

I don't beleive they are L129 as the head shape is slightly different especially on male...
So far they are being sold as L340 but could well end up being a new L-number!!

Cheers

The problem here is that these fishes are from Colombia so they cant be L399
They are exported as L340, Yann said they can turn up to be a new L-nb and maybe they even are two different species...these above are the same but in the group I have bought there are differencies in the size of their eyes and headshape between induviduals. For the moment they are a little small and we will see how they develope when they have grown a little more.

There were at least 8 in the group I got these from. The others had duller markings but all were the same size.
I thought they were L399 when I saw them in the shop.
I will let them grow on for a year then ID them again, for now im very happy with them. They have settled in and are not shy, unlike my other L399 and L66. Thanks for all the input guys, its all good stuff......potential new L numbers and all that!!!!!

Hi!

L399 is really different, this so call L340 is rather low bodied, with a rather huge head compare to the overall body. The biggest I have seen so far never exceeded 8cm TL!

I have a group of 4, I first thought they could be L129 as well, but these are slightly different as well. Andre would be the best one to say if they are L340 indeed...

Cheers Yann
