help with ids?

these two came in as a L183. they are stressed from being caught and thrown into a catch bucket. they are normally more black.

and this as a L260.

I'd say it was a <em>Hypancistrus</em> from the caudal shape and also the shorter snout; where was it imported from?

thats one of the problems. i dont know where they came from.
i also have a L134 and they are quit different.

I would also say hypancistrus. I have kept L134 before iwth both paterns or stripes or stripes and dots and these are nothing like it. I am with jools. I can't say which, but it is hypancistrus

They might be young L340 or L270. Janne is the best one to ask when looking at young fish and being able to tell what they grow up into.

I have been thinking and not felt sure what species they are...thats why I have not answered yet

To be honest, first I thought they could be L270 but the caudalfin seams to be to much forked...they match youngsters of L66 but the colouration dont, are they so brown and yellow or is't just the wrong colour on the pics?
If the colouration is right I would say they are L270 and also if the caudalfin when "streched" are less forked and more straight.

The Ancistrus species is not L183, there are several similar species mostly from Brasil but even some from Colombia and Peru...let it settle in and take new pics later when it has their real colour.

Hi!

I tend to agree with Janne about the similarities with l66 regarding this Hypancistrus... L333 could also be a possible match, they dont get a higher body too early... they are quite similar with L66 at a young age!
Otherwise L399 is one last possibility... it show how much it can be a real nightmare to id all these Hypancistrus especially at a young age!!

regarding the Ancistrus, which as Janne said isn't A. dolichopterus, but giving you an accruate Id without much information on the origin of the import is basically impossible to say...
