questions about my new sailfin(with pic)

Post by turbovr6 »

Hi,
I just purchased a sailfin a few days ago from my local LFS. Since I see many different opinions I would like to know how big he will get, and what I should feed him besides algae wafers? Also what other plecos would be ok to put in the tank with him? The tank is a custom made one. About 150 gallons. 72 inches long, 24 inches wide, and 18 inches high.

Thanks!

It is a link to the information page for Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus. That is the identity of turbovr6's fish pictured above.

That's a nice tank design for plecos: big bottom area!

As to the tank companions, I'd say you can have many different plecos [albeit not at the same time], as long as they don't grow too much beyond 10-12".

You haven't given any details of what else you'll have in the tank, nor what temperature you've got.

If you keep the temperature around the 27'C mark, then one option may be - they are nice looking, not too agressive.

Other than that, there's around 500 different plecos [although it's not necessarily easy to get hold of all of them], so there's lots to choose from.

Just to add my halfpenny's worth - my sailfin lives with a gold nugget (L018) happily enough. He's a big fan of bloodworm and cucumber, but turns his nose up at apple. Also loves his bogwood. Dislikes being annoyed by African Dwarf Frogs.

That's probably why FishSoup gave a link to this:
