congratulations to coryman.he's had a least two spawnings of C.weitzmani without knowing. just the young turning up.

Well done Ian - is this the first U.K. recorded spawning?

It would be a real achievement if this fabulous fish could be established in the hobby through captive breeding.

I couldn't resist posting a picture of my weitzmani. Fingers crossed.

I will be looking to see what happens next time, the group were obviously in far better condition than I had realised and they just went and spawned without any assistance from me.

ian had three youngsters of different ages so at least the two spawnings. And it is the first spawning in the uk as far as i know.

Actually there is nothing special about the set up, the two batches were placed in fairly shallow long tanks 36" x 11" x 8" with two sponge filters an thin layer os fine sand and some spawning mops. I am starting to get eggs from the second group, but have found them to be avid egg eaters, so I shall be giving them a lot more cover.

A full account will be detailed in a spawning log and placed in the spawning log section on the new site, which will be live quite soon.

This species seem relatively easier to spawn like aeneus.
I have friend in taiwan breeding them already.

We've had troubles with acclimation before any tips with these guy's? Seemed they died for no reason after a short 5 hour flight.

This was in Peru. China received them in good condition. We couldn't come up with anything other then either they had something we couldn't see and couldn't treat effectively, or there was something in the water that this sp is not capable of tollerating as well as other fish.

Just had a spawning myself.

The process began about an hour ago and is continuing as we speak. I held off last week's fifty percent WC, then did a 70 percent this afternoon after noticing cleaning action last night. The temperature in the tank is about 70, maybe less (at least that's what the heater is set at). Java moss and a spare hypancistrus breeding cave, bare substrate with 2 airstone driven filters. Spawning occured in typical "T" style formation. Eggs laid in java moss. Two males, two females involved.

Pics. Red circles indicate signature pelvic pouch. I was unable to get pictures of the T position, as I snuck in, took two shots, snuck out, etc. At least I hope these are pics of breeding females. She was in the process of depositing when I snapped these shots, and stopped all breeding action at once, then resumed after about a minute:

I never brought any back from the USA as they were already imported into the UK before my trip.
