suitable catfish

hi
my tapwater ph is 7.7 gh 8. is there any south american catfish that will breed in these conditions?..eg..bronze corys and ancistrus??..help plse!

Common bristlenose, will certainly breed under these conditions. At least mine do...

There's probably several other Loricariidae, but if you're going to breed different types of Loricariidae, then the best way is to get the experience from some "easy" specie first, as if you mess up and loose all the fry on the first attempt, you don't have to wait long before you get the next spawn - that's the theory anyways.

from ur experience can u recommend some species?. i have some young gold ancistrus at the moment but am impatient to wait till they are mature. would like to give it all a bash. also, will any of the corys breed under those conditions?..except for bronze corys...tks again for the info.

Well, the species is a good one to start with. It should be what you find in a regular LFS sold as "Bristlenose" (or "Bushynose" or whatever the local term is). Unfortunately, finding good-size adults is not easy, but babies are usually available.

"Gold ancistrus" I'm not sure what that is: Is it ? If so, they are (probably) the same species as sp(3) but albino - same breeding principle...

As to Cory's, I don't know. It may be a good idea to ask in the Callichtyidae(sp?) forum for that one. And I guess the rest of this discussion should be moved by a moderator to Loricariidae, as it's not really "Everything else" species involved here.

Ah, yes. I didn't mean that you should post another two posts in the two other forums, but rather ONE new post for the Cory section, and then this thread being moved to the Loricariidae section - since that's what this thread has become.
