Corydoras leucomelas?

i have had 2 of these guys for nearly a year and never been able to ID them ... up to tonight that is.

ironicaly as i was about to post this i stumbled across what i think they are - as indicated in the title, i suspect they are Corydoras leucomelas.

i thought i'd post 2 images i took of one of them and see what u guys think. put my mind to rest so to speak that i finaly have got the right ID

cheers Kim, i think we're right

i bought 2 new cories today. i'm a cory addict, i love them.

the trouble with cories is there is so many and so many that are similar in looks.

the ones i got today ... 1 i think is a reticulatus, but not sure and the other one similar to ones i've seen but as of yet i'm not sure. i may post a pic here if i cant ID it myself.

Fishypaw, the posting of images in Planet Catfish only works if the link "looks like an image", which means that it needs to end with something that resembles a filename and that ends with .jpg/.bmp or some other "picture" extension. Since the album hides the actual filename in the link, the post will not show the image [because it doesn't have something that looks like an image filename].

If you use Imageshack.com or some similar web-site, you can post images directly in the post because the site exposes a filename that is recognised by this site as an image.

when i bought these the guy told me they were punctatus but when i looked them up i realised they weren't.

i bought two more cories today from a big pet chain that is starting to get more interesting fish in. as usual they know nothing tho and couldnt ID them.

i couldn't resist them tho as they looked lovely and healthy and were much cheaper (misspriced i think) than 'exotic' cories from better smaller fish shops.

i think one of them might be a proper punctatus this time but im not sure. the other one has got me puzzled tho. i cant seem to find anything like it. maybe im not looking hard enough.

i will maybe post pics later when i can borrow a digi cam of a friend.

It is most unlikely that you would have C. punctatus,these are a small species from Suriname and are not commercially collected. Exporters put the name "punctatus to al least six spotted species.

hi coryman. funnily enough i have had ur page bookmarked for ages, didnt know it was urs tho.

believe me, i have hunted thru ur site and the cat-elog and the best match i can come up with for this new guy is punctatus. it is quite small but that may be due to being young.

ofcourse i know i may well be wrong and maybe just havent looked at the right one yet.

unfortunately i dont have a decent cam at the moment to take a pic.
