L168, Butterfly Pl*co

Post by RaacheL »

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me as much info as possible on Butterfly pl*co's.. I have a 26 gal. bow front tank now, with 2 blood parrot cich lids, and 4 tiger barbs, the Ph is at 7, temp. 78, and i have a large peice of diftwood in there. Is this sutable for say 1 or 2 L168's? A LFS told me they will have some in, in about a week..I really want the little guys, and i've been doing alot of reasearch about them..although i haven't found much..I just wondered if anyone had any good information on them. I want them to be as healthy and happy as possible. Thank you :D

I would immagine it would be fine to put them in that tank. I'm not too fammiliar with the behaviour of blood parrot cichlids, but if they don't pick on the barbs, the plecos should be ok. The water levels should be fine for 168's too.

"Butterfly pleco" is not necessarily Zonancistrus pulcher. Trade names can mean almost anything. "Butterfly pleco" is also used to refer to hillstream loaches, see http://forum.planetcatfish.com/viewtopic.php?t=1231 in this forum. Of course, if you're sure it's L168, then yes, it's Zonancistrus pulcher.

Well the L168 is what i'm wanting, my LFS told me they would be getting some Butterfly pl*co's in soon..I'm pretty sure that he was talking about the L168 by the way he was talking..but I will see. my tanks temp would be a bit too high for the loach.

Hi!
All this exemple are one reason I don't like naming fish with a commercial name, but rather using a scientific name even if no more valid, people will always know right away what type of fish we are dealing with otherwise the L number is fine, but of course it should not be the one seen in the Aqualog book!
Cheers

Well, like I said, if they dont get in the L168, i won't be buying it. There is another fish store that i can order one from and they have a list of pl*co's they can order by the L #'s and i will be giving him the L # and scientific name of the fish, so there is no room for mistake. But what i was really hoping for when i posted this was some helpful information on this fish....not how the LFS got the wrong fish in.....
