100+ gallon tanks

I have a Red-Tail Catfish as some of ya'll may now. Hes about 8-inches long and stationed in a 25 gallon, he is out growing it quick. So this summer i am going to try to find a 100,125,130,150 tank to house this monster of a fish in. Would any of have any advise for keeping this large tank and a price I would be looking at for they tank or complete set-up.If any body has any pic's of their huge tank please post.

From what I've learned here, your fish will also outgrow all of the tanks you mentioned. He'll probably outgrow the 25 long before Summer, too.

I went to undergrad in Milwaukee, WI, and they had a few 3-4 foot redtails at the zoo. They were remarkably beautiful, but definitely nothing that could be housed in any conventional aquarium. The tank they were in was roughly 40 ft. long x 20 ft. wide x 20 ft. deep.

I hate to rain on your parade (especially because others already have done so) but I doubt you'll be able to keep your cat happy at home. I would seriously think about trading him for a porthole cat or small group of cories.

While I agree with the above post and the fact that you should probably trade the fish back in.

If you do keep it you can get a 300 gallon stock tank from Tractor Supply for around $200.

That should help him out for at least a couple of years.

I like they 300 gal stock tank, But once again there's more problem's. where and whant kind of heater would be nesesary
to heat such a big tank (I only seen 75 gal heaters at they biggest). If not what would i do in they winter???? I agree
about the zoo haveing 3-4 foot long Red-Tail's and how they don't have lots of space like they should!!! meaning the 300 gal stock is tank still is not large enough. aslo resulting in the fish jumping out of the tank like the last koi & goldfish i rased in the 75 gal pond.

If your planning on keeping it outside in the winter then I don't know what to tell you. If your keeping it inside then I would recommend two canister filters with hy-dor in-line heater on each one. You should be able to keep it in the low-mid seventies with those. That way you don't have to worry about the cat breaking the heater in the pond.

You can easily put mesh over the top of the pond similar to what some people do with koi ponds to keep the koi from jumping out (And racoons/herons from coming in). There are holes around the top of the rim of the stock tank that makes it easier to secure things down with.

Sounds like you'd better go for the 8x2ft 625gal Poly Tank in that Tractor catalogue.

It seems to me, that if you're getting toward an enclosure that needs to be kept outside, buried in the ground, and now covered in mesh... Are you going to get the same enjoyment, as compared to a few regular size fish, you can see behind glass in your lounge?
