Tankmates for Hoplo's?

Post by kalija »

Hi. I have 2 hoplo cats, Megalechis thoracata. (I'd like to get some more but right now I can't find any) They are about 3". I am moving some tanks around and wonder if they would get along OK in a 125 gallon with 3 4"-5" clown loaches? There are lots of hidey-holes, and the loaches are not aggressive toward any of my other fish. Does anyone know if they would be compatible? Other tankmates in the tank would be a couple Jurupari eartheaters, a common pleco, and some congo tetras. I am just trying to add some more cats to this tank. Thanks!

Hoplo buddies

Hi 8) I have a 4ft tank and this successfully houses 2 x 15cm male hoplos, 2 male royal whiptails, 1 farowella, 3 glass catfish, and 6 rummy nose tetras, 2 danios, 2 clown loaches, 5 corydoras(3 peppers, 1 juli, 1 axelrodi) pair of blue rams, and 2 head & tail light tetras. It is not heavily planted and has 2 decent sized hollow logs. The hoplos do not cause any problems on purpose however when they decide to play chasey they just cream any fish in their path, they are boisterous because they are in breading condition. They are great to watch and will attack (hit with some forceand splash) your hand or net if you have it in the tank. I have another 3 ft tank with 2 females which I intend to use as a breading tank. Hope this is of help. :D
