PH testing question

Post by FuglyDragon »

I have noticed when I test my PH (JBL test kit) it gives an initial reading of 6.8 - 6.9 but then over time it gets progressively higher (more alkaline) (usually while I am waiting for the NO3 test kit so over 10 - 20 mins.) Is this normal or does it indicate a problem with my water ?

Although I have no personal experience with that specific test, I would not worry in your case. If the manual says the values are to be read straight after addition of the test liquid to your water sample, that is the time when the test is calibrated. The later colour change is most probably due to the chemicals oxidising when subject to air.
