Tank mates for L204...

Post by Ryan S »

Due to watching the great antics of my L204 Iâ??d like to get another.
However, I sort of lost sight of the whole reason for getting a plec (to graze the algae on my wood décor) , and as the L204 eats wood, I guess itâ??ll have itâ??s work cut out trying to keep on top of all of the algae in the tank (not that itâ??s a problem yet).
So after yearning for 4 or so Zebra otoâ??s â?? Iâ??m letting my head rule for once  , and Iâ??m getting a pair of brisltenoses (not sure what type â?? the £3.50 ones :!: ).
Once these guys are added, will they be compatible with a L204 or two :?:
Itâ??s in relation to the 300l tank, with plenty of hiding placesâ?¦
Current fish -
3 Corydoras sterbai
2 Meglaechis thoracta
1 L204
15 Rummy nose tetras
7 BA Tetras
3 Black Neons
12 Nannostomus beckfordi Pencilfish
1 Anostomus ternetzi

Cheers,

yeah, but both of the shops near me are, well, quite frankly useless. Although, they do have an allmost unlimited supply of sucking loaches? both shops!!

Forgot about this thread!

Cheers for the reply Mats,

I got a pair that night.
They've settled in well, they're around about the 40mm size.
One is very dark, the other has nice light/cream coloured spots.

They're often difficult to spot as they're so small.

The Panaque sp(L204) has established a hideout under some bogwood and is constantly making darting forays out from his/her den to munch on a branch.

Any aggression towards the Ancistrus from the L204?

I was just sitting here, watching a 7cm L204 chasing a male Ancistrus dolichopterus of almost twice its size away from its territory  (the L204 owns almost the full lenght of a 100cm piece of driftwood and he is a newcomer in the tank too, only two days old).

Seems like a few bristlenoses should not be a problem for the L204s or vice versa. Currently I have a 330l tank with 4 L204, 1 L200, 1 Blue panaque and curently 4 bristlenoses. The L204s keep to themselfs and none (maybey expect the blue panaque) seems to be bothered or bother them. On the other hand, the L200 chases off the blue panaque who chases of the bristlenoses... But I have no problem like any of them getting too little food or too few hiding places -- lots of bogwood to hide in.

They just chase them off when a new bit of cucumber appears.
But the Bristlenoses are active all the time, and so easliy get there fair share.

They're about 4 inches now...and I'm taking them back to the shop - job done (I did get the Zebra Otto's!)
