A Rainbow Crab

one of my LFS seems to have an endless supply of these interesting crabs, so im thinking of picking one up

i have a 60x30x20 (height) cm tank, is this enough for a single crab? also, does anyone own one? any ideas for tank set - up, because all i know is to have a water area in 1 quarter of the tank, and a few hiding spots

I honestly have little knowledge of these creatures prefering
to have fish in all my tanks.
I don't have a clue

hi i had a couple of small crabs but ended taking them back in the end because they kept nipping my fish.i read somewhere that they wont live for too long in freshwater because they need salt water eventually. i personally wouldnt reccomend getting one unless you are prepared to give it the environment it needs. i believe any fish we keep should thrive and not just survive.

There are true freshwater crabs that don't need any saltwater at all, not even for reproduction. However, it is true that crabs and fish don't make good tankmates.

Rainbow crabs need different conditions than hermit crabs, but if you do a forum search for moon crabs (rainbow crab) on the site Silent Doh gave, you will find some posts on them.

My wife saw some crabs in a shop we'd never been to before. When we asked the staff, they reconned you could keep them with bigger fish, which wasn't the case for the tank we had. I saw that my LFS has them too, so I asked them, and they said "Specialized tank only, will definitely eat plants and any fish that it gets it claws on". Fine if you have a spare tank, but not recommended to mix with fish or plants...
